Not surprising. I wish him well at his next stop. I hoped his stay here would've been more productive. But now I think we've turned the page on that position.

I would not be surprised if it was true. I really liked his attitude but his performance on the field was lacking. I hope they can figure out how to improve blocking on running downs.

The 2-TE transition, ineffective season, and coming off a back injury made this move obvious...

I wish him the best, tho.

While I'm not surprised at all about the him being gone. I am very surprised that it's NOW. I expected him to participate in Training Camp. Seems like a kind a random time to do it. Why not last week or 2 weeks ago if they weren't going to have him in camp?

To me, this means one of two things:
1) Vickers knew he was gone, and asked to be let go earlier so he could latch on elsewhere. Perhaps his agent got a call from another team? ( With Dallas' ok to look around, of course)

2) Dallas has some interest in another player and needed the open slot.

Or it could be both.

We'll probably find out why pretty soon.

Wasn't a fan of his play from the outset, though he had a great personality. I never understood why Fiametta was released, though.

If he was healthy earlier on in the offseason, he would have been gone previously.

As far as I know, Fiametta has some rare problem/undiaganosable disease/illness thingy with his balance that caused bouts of severe vertigo. They weren't able to pinpoint the cause, but it led to him being unable to play games at times... and they never knew when it would occur. Result? Too unreliable to count on.

Not his fault at all and really too bad. I'm pretty sure he's not with the Pats anymore either.

He didn't work out, but the Cowboys liked Vickers enough to cut him early, so he'd have a chance to catch on somewhere else. Of course, had he been healthy, they would have given him that chance even earlier....

Figured this was happening. Not a surprise. Demarco just needs a lane open from the oline and that's it

here come the 12 set...

For better or worse.

They've tried this route twice before with less than stellar results.

I think Murray was at his best with Fiametta in front of him and I am a fan of a good fullback in the running game ( not that Vickers played like one here).

Just have to hope the third time's the charm on the two TE set.

That's a valid point.

I think the overall depth at the position is much better than the two previous attempts.

Probably were waiting for him to get healthy.

And it's full speed ahead with the two-tight end base offense! No use giving preseason time to a fullback if Dallas wants to make this the base set, better to go all in.

Dallas has never really fully committed to it, partly because Garrett always wanted to find a fullback like Moose and never fully set the position aside. Now, without a fullback in camp to fall back on, Dallas is forced to find ways to get the running game going with two tight ends.

And it's a bugger trying to find a college FB who has the skillset to be a "Moose". As we know the FB isn't being used as much in college so you have that much smaller a pool to choose out of.

I think this was purely respectful from the Cowboy's vantage point. Giving the veteran a fair chance to catch on with another team was both the best thing to do for the player and the team in this current situation in my estimation. There aren't many times you can build players' trust in the team without it costing you anything. The Cowboys come off looking like "good-guys" here for a player who really had no chance of making the final roster. Plus now you don't even have to full around with dedicating any of training camp to a pure fullback look. These guys have been trying this 2 TE thing for a while now. It's time to produce brownies or get off the pot this time. Going to camp without a FB is exactly the dedication to this scheme I want to see.
