I was a little shocked earlier this week when I heard that Aikman now said he would take Eli over Romo.

And he doesn't sound all that 'high' on Romo in this interview at all. Maybe he's just down on the Cowboys as a whole.

I would like to see Aikman and Staubach spend some time with Romo this offseason just to gauge where he is right now and maybe give him some advice.

If so, that's troublesome.

He seems like he needs a few sounding boards who have gone thru some tough times and I would think former NFL QB's would be the guys.

Especially those two because they are 'family'.

what would impress me more than Aikman and Staubach stepping up and giving advice to our young QB would be if Romo would man up and ask for advice from our 2 greatest QBs in franchise history.

Am I still crazy to think Romo is in over his head and needs, at the very least a real QB coach? Ultimately I would still like to see direct competition brought in at the position. If Romo beats out the guy then he earned another chance.

Tony needs to learn to protect the football. He does need coaching but at this point most of it is on him. You can only preach so much.

The coaching could help though. Don't ask Tony to do it all which they mostly do. Get the running game going and take the heat off him some. And make sure to call the proper passing plays to help the OL and rest protect him.

Please, Romo has already proven that he can beat out the competition. He was an undrafted FA for Damn sake.

What odds did he beat to get to this point? You don't think he beat out any competition along the way? How many QB's from his draft class, Big college Pgms etc has he beat out already? How many QB's were ranked ahead of him? He friggin put handpicked Bill Parcells possible but no cigar HOF'er Bledsoe on the pines. All of this from a damn FA QB from the powerhouse Eastern Illinois !!

Lets get real here. Romo needs some help. Did Aikman throw the ball 35 times per game, Stauback was lucky if he threw 20 times per game.

Right now the team depends on Romo solely to create the spark, it all revolves around Romo. How about a dominant run game like we had in the 90's and then add Romo to the mixture and we will be quite fine.

Hey, Romo makes his share of mistakes but have we really had the team where we have'nt needed him to pull a rabbit out of a hat. I say no!

It seems that I agree with jobberone on this.

It seems that you are to Romo as I am to TO... Nice. I won't try to convince you otherwise. I already know it doesn't work.

There's only about 10 qbs who could "compete" with him, and they are starting for their respective teams.

Who in the world could Dallas get in here to compete for a job? Chris Simms?

Direct competition:lmao2:

Who exactly we going to bring in to "compete" with our $100 milion dollar QB???

A rookie or vet retred???

That will be good for team chemistry, our $100 million dollar QB sitting on the bench eating some nachos, yacking it up with TO and Witten and most of the o-line and the "starter who beat him out in camp" sitting on the end of the bench all by himself.

Yea, benching Romo when he is best friends with 90% of the offensive starters is really going to bring about team chemistry while the new guy gets treated like he has the plague and sits all by himself at the end of the bench.

Just saying.

Egads do you think he has no competition, just look at how accurately he throws to his receivers in stride, he is the third best QB in the NFC east. Pass me some of that mixture you call tea. Heck two rookies from last year Ryan, and Flacco showed what a turnover conscious offensive effort can bring. Just because he is a cowboy does not give him special powers of deception and ability. I like him but we need to channel that ability. I am all for getting someone who lights a fire under his tail. That being said we have more pressing needs, Safety and DL/OL. The game is played with a limited amount of capital to spend, question is how do we get the most bang for our buck picking in the middle of the first round and dealing with losing or gaining FA. Tony's situation will have to be addressed in the future not this year the money is not there for this conflict but rest assured if his year mirror's this last one, QB will be on everyone's lips(I am sure some of you will be bringing up Quinn).

Does this player have a name?

what about Jeff Garcia, who plays in the same mobile style as Romo, and can at least hold the fort for a while should Romo have a complete turnover-meltdown. Someone like Garcia would allow Dallas to bench Romo if they tell him to cut out the INTs and happy-go-passy doesn't. That kind of thing seemed to work for the Eagles quite well, when they benched MicNabb late last year, and since, he's been unstopable. Maybe he cna teach romo a thing or two.

And yes, I know the history between T.O. and Garcia. How about T.O. just shuts up and deals with it for a change? That's what I would MAKE T.O. do should Dallas bring in Garcia.

You can't really be serious. How much did those rose colored shades set you back? They look pricey.

I would love it if we brought Garcia in! Talk about Jerry getting serious... That would be a serious move. Then, on top of that, another lame storyline from yesteryear would come full circle when Garcia tosses numerous TD passes to a more mature TO and they go on to set records next year in a revived offensive system that suddenly finds its QB completing a high percentage of passes. I could really see some shorts on this board getting twisted over a storyline like that.

Aikman should be down on the person calling all the PASSING PLAYS. Not Romo. Seems like more is being placed on Romos shoulders to PASS their way to WINS than there ever was on Aikman.
