Video: Did Taylor Mays got robbed ???

4.43...it's official. That tape is a montage and a splice job, not the real thing.
Here we go again. :)

The one thing I do know if we did get this guy, the Eagles wouldn't be sending little Desean deep against us very much with that size and speed back there to snag balls and make a play on him. STILL.... I love Earl Thomas much more & I hope some teams fell in love with Mays more than ET today and he falls a bit more. I don't see that happening though unfortunately

This makes you wonder how many other guys got screwed in their 40 time. At least it is proof that with all the tech behind the combine that it is indeed flawed. I think there are going to be alot of surprises at Pro Day for alot of guys.
It's not "proof" at all. You guys are taking a computer splice job and saying it is better than the actual time they ran.

Look, if those guys were actually running together and the one in front got a slower time than the one trailing, then yes, something would be amiss. But this is a computer animmated effort to splice few guys running solo..and hoping that the thing is synchonized perfectly to the 100th second.
It is not.

I don't care who beat who...I'm just telling you that the gizmo used for TV purposes is not as accurate as the real electronic clock...that's all. I think Eisen may be assuming it is, but he's not a techie by any means. It's not an effort to make one look better than the other, I'm just saying that the odds are much greater that the independent electroin clock is more accurate than something that splice job to illustrate a point.
If Mays ran better than a 4.43, good for him.

Argh, got my 1080i and 720p mixed up. Disregard the below. Double the accuracy difference. Instead of .016.., it'll be .033333...

Nerd time:

The video, if edited correctly, should only be off by less than 1/60th of a second, as that's the frame rate of 1080i (what NFL Network broadcasts). You go look at each player's first movement on the HD recording, and it will either be during a blur or clear frame. That is where the margin of error lies.

1/60th = .0166... under stopwatch times.

So a 40 time of 4.35 on a stopwatch will at worst be a 4.367 if calculated by 1080i video. So unless the player's official times are closer than .016 apart, this video will show the difference clearly.

LOL.

From the guy who titled a thread in the Draft Zone...

'Everyone calm down about Taylor Mays'

:laugh1:

No way the timing should be off by two tenths.

I get what you are saying but it still didn't look right. Especially since word was that the guy ran 4.3s at USC. I watched the DBs at the combine and here is what I saw:

Initially it was thought that Mays ran a 4.24 because that was "hand-timed" and relayed to the NFLN guys. Then the official time came out and all the guys were in disbelief. Deon Sanders said that there is no way you have two tenths of a difference between the two. He preached that something was wrong there.

You are starting to sound really dumb here.

If Mays beat Holliday.

Then how the heck can Mays time be slower than Hollidays time?

:laugh1:

If the 13th rated dude is available at 27, at a position of need, **** yeah. There's nothing funny about that.

Don't get caught up with 40 times, the knock on him is that he takes bad angles, has stiff hips - which was exposed on one of the DB drill today, and doesn't wrap up/looks for the big hit. Don't want this guy for a first rounder.

From an SI article:

"During drills, Mays was in poor form. As fast as he was moving forwards, Mays was terribly slow moving in reverse. It was similar to his performance at the Senior Bowl in January. Mays looked uncomfortable backpedaling during drills and one scout called his defensive back fundamentals "just bad." When asked to change direction, Mays would come to a complete stop then start up again. The contrast between Mays and players such as Earl Thomas and T.J. Ward, who lost little momentum changing direction, was striking."

He's apparently only fast going in a strait line.

Did I say Mays beat Holiday? Uh no. I said synchonizing a digital output of their races was flawed and you could not rely on that. But then again, the poster before you seems to think otherwise...saying that unless the times less than .16 seconds apart you will have no issue. He is assuming that they have taken the time to get the near perfect start time synchronized in the station. He is comparing stop watch vs 1060 digital output--which is not an independent electronic timing. BUt who knows, maybe I'm just a digging a hole here.

Anyway, I don't really care what the times were...I should bail out of this before someone starts taking it personal.

I think you're taking the 40 times personal in a way but it's all good. Just give us Earl Thomas.

.016. That 0 you left off is a big difference to 40 times.

I actually edited the post to .03333, btw, because 1080i is 30fps. It's 720p that is 60fps. And NFL Network broadcasts in 1080i.

"did Taylor Mays get robbed?"

not as bad as the team that drafts him.
