seems like he was usually two tenths off from making a big play too.Dash28;3293574 said:No way the timing should be off by two tenths.

There is power in knowledge, and correct knowledge is more power.Hoofbite;3293746 said:Would it be worth it?
I mean, most people are pretty much in agreement about what is fast and what isn't.
Even without the clocks, you'd have guys sticking out.
Interesting thought and I have no clue why they they time the way they do. Not really sure that Dallas would get that great of an advantage from knowing the exact time as opposed to what people generally accept.
Yeah, I got off on a tangent....Dash28;3293591 said:I think you're taking the 40 times personal in a way but it's all good. Just give us Earl Thomas.

Here is this year's attempt, using same technology as the clip above.

not as bad as the team that drafts him.

If he did run in the 4.2-4.3 range the OMG DRAFT HIMcrowd will start to form.
Either that or Al Davis will try to turn in his "Taylor Mays" card when the Rams are on the clock![]()

About the only way I could see that happening is if there is an official "start". You know... on your mark, get set, GO. If that were the case, then the faster timed guy who actually ran a little slower could have gotten a better start than Mays, and gotten a better time than him... even though he ran a little slower.
However, if the clock doesn't start until the player takes off (like many are saying in this thread), then it seems clear that the timing is just off and that putting much stock in these exact times is pure folly.
As for the Cowboys drafting Mays: I would rather he not be a Cowboy. He is an athletic freak, that is for sure, but how many times does it have to be proven that athleticism without football instincts, toughness and heart isn't good enough to make a great football player? The player has to know angles, leverage, timing, etc. in order to play the game and be effective. If he is just a little off on those things, the game moves on without him.
I think Mays is a little stiff when he isn't running in a straight line, and I think his effort and actual football skills are way off. Watching the DB's run their drills yesterday, it was evident that Mays wouldn't give his all in finishing the drills.
I don't know. Goodness knows everyone can be off in picking a potential football player, but there is something about Mays and the way he plays the game that bothers me. With his athletic talent, he should have been head and shoulders above everyone else on the field in college. He wasn't. He rarely stuck out and didn't make very many plays. How is that going to change once he gets where everyone is talented?
You can't say it is because he didn't have the coaching either. His coaching staff is now a part of the NFL pretty much. The team he played for was usually much more talented and better coached than the opposing team and yet Mays didn't make much of an impact.
If Dallas drafts him at 27, then they must know something to make them do it... but personally, I would stay well away from the guy unless he dropped to our second round pick where he might be worth the gamble.

Lets say you have 2 WRs rated fairly even and are targeting one of them. The hand timers "official" times for Holiday and 4.34 and for Mays 4.43. But in that video we can see that Mays is faster than Holiday. If both of those guys were WRs having that information accurate wouldn't be an advantage? Seriously?
I honestly do not know how you can say that. You would know that other teams could be targeting the guy timed at 4.34 and you would actually know he was slower than that and the other guy was faster.
