Staubach's last game vs Skins, comeback win 35-34

There are a lot of people who will tell you they remember this game very vividly because it was a miraculous comeback against the Skins in 'Captain Comeback' Roger Staubach's last regular season game of his career...

That was an amazing finish!

Stupid Skins fumble twice in last five minutes, lol.

Yeah, DC... and to top it off, Pat Summerall announcing Cowboys games on CBS! Those were the days!!

Thanks DC for posting. Never had the chance to watch these guys live. Roger had a great arm didn't he? Wow.

DC, excellent post. It was nice to watch that again. I forgot just how good Tony Hill was..

Great stuff.... I remember watching those guys when I was a kid. Thanks for posting this!!

Thanks for posting. One of my favorite games ever and I remember watching it. I was almost 10 years old at the time.

And man I forgot how sweet it was to listen to Summerall do play by play. He was great.

He was classic.. I loved hearing him say, "Touchdown Dallas".

That and him referencing the "as always unchanged expression of Tom Landry." Summerall was the man.

I have that video on DVD courtesy of a member here. It remains my all time favorite game.

Mine as well. Not sure there will ever be one better.

I don't see how there could be SG. Especially one with more on the line.

Such a magical day. Then on March 31, 1980, Roger hung 'em up. To this day, that saddens me.

That didn't look like PI by Harris to me.

Then again, this was 10 years before I was born, so the rule might've been different.

The greatest football game in the storied history of Texas Stadium,IMHO.The final 2 drives by the Cowboys to win that game were as thrilling as it gets.Preston Pearson was impossible to cover on the final drive,he abused Monte Coleman, who was a decent cover LB.I don't know why the NFL didn't include this in their 10 Greatest Cowboys Games, its the best game ever in the great Cowboys/Commanders rivalry.Roger Staubach has always said it was the most memorable game he played in,a great footnote to this game is when Harvey Martin tossed a funeral wreath into the Commanders locker room after it was over.

Couple of memories from this classic:

-John Riggins had a huge game, will never forget him outrunning the secondary on that 66 yard TD

-Dallas had no Tony Dorsett, and Drew Pearson could barely play due to a knee injury that occurred when spiking the ball 2 weeks earlier against the NY Giants

-once Dallas was down 17-0,they stuck with their gameplan and continued to run the ball,Ron Springs had a real good game in place of Dorsett

-Tony Hill had a great game,he ran a lot of inside routes that day which wasn't his strength

-the tackle by Larry Cole to stop Riggins on 3rd down is one of the great plays of all time,Cole had a history of big plays agaist the Skins

-if any football fan wants to see how the 2 minute drill should be run, they need to watch Roger Staubach on those last 2 possesions

-after watching this thriller,I fully expected the Cowboys to breeze through the NFC playoffs en route to another Dallas-Pittsburgh Super Bowl,it just wasn't to be

Thanks for posting the video of such a memorable game!!

Those injuries to Tony and Drew doomed us in the playoffs. We were able to ride the Captains arm through this game but that was it.

Typical that morons like the NFL did not include this game (but then they love the skins so it is no surprise).

My favorite Cowboy game of all time.

In the years since that game one of my favorites was the Monday night game against the Giants in tuna's first year-he had planned for the contingencies and they all came up his way in that game. Its my personal opinion that BP had his last great coaching year that year.

Several things came to me as I was watching these clips. First off, thanks for posting them!

Like a lot of you guys I miss Summerall. Stram, not so much. His voice was annoying.

I still don't understand why Pittsburg let Preston Pearson go. In those old days before free agency, surely they could have kept him if they wanted him. He had to be one of the best recievers out of the backfield, ever.

At one point they mentioned Riggins as weighing 225. He sure looked bigger.

Was Mosley the last straight ahead kicker? He had to be one of the last ones.

Again, thanks for posting those. A good Cowboys fix was just what I needed on this Friday morning!

The other voice is that of the late Tom Brookshier.

Summerall and Brookshier did SB's X and XII and all the NFCC in the mid-to-late 70's.

One time when Staubach was jogging over to the sideline, Brookshier said, "Roger runs like a sissy, doesn't he?"
