Video with Donovan Ezeiruaku

Freeney was almost 20lbs heavier and ran a 4.48 40 at the combine and was rumored to have run much faster at this Pro Day and had the craziest spin move ever. I'm not saying he is Randy Gregory, but he's probably more Gregory than Freeney. I'm really excited to see this kid, but maybe tap the brakes just a little.
This happens every year at this time. Some guy the Cowboys took is the magical macguffin who has been playing possum in college and the moment he puts on the helmet with the star is going to transform into Juggernaut.

i am reasonably sure we would have drafted Mykel Williams had the 49ers not drafted him ahead of us at 11.I would rather have Eze at 44 than Mykel Williams at 12.

That has the potential of a homerun pick. Im just curious about his run defense. If thats good too he might have All Pro Potential.
He plays the run well, technique-wise.

But at his size (6’2, 247) that might be more difficult against giant OLinemen.

But he’s a smart player and knows how to play the run.

I had him third only behind Carter/Pierce in a loaded class. Freeney was undersized too, but was an excellent pass rusher.
Well, you follow the NCAA more than I do, because I never heard of him before his name came up for our draft...

I really don't understand how this kid made it to 44.
If he really is this smart, great technique, can't miss talent folks are describing, he wouldn't have. Teams saw some kind of limitation to keep him from being considered a blue chipper. More to be seen at the pro level which is a big step up.

He is my favorite draft pick in this class and we had some really good picks this year!
He just has that knack, like Overshown did when we picked him, when I watch him and think about what he can do for us when paired with the rest of those guys, it gets me super excited for his future here.

On the draft zone, we discussed many of these prospects. Donovan was more of a trade back target as he was considered more of a top 25 prospect that was too rich to consider at 12. Pierce was the guy early in the process that was being considered a top 15 player, but major character risks came up through the offseason process.

Right, most of his career Robert Quinn was 6 foot 4 245 coming into the league gained some weight they say he finished at 264 but that up for debate betting hes 250ish, Quinn I mean one of his nicknames was Gumby,

I mean think about itI keep bringing him up as my comp for E Z E what the..

but he was known as a primary pass rusher, and he was pretty tall and thin and all he did was get sacks...102 Sacks for his career..34 FF, 102 TFL all in 169 games.. Not bad for a guy they say all he can do is pass rush that's like saying all a guy can do is score touchdowns I mean that is his main job.
He was just that, more of a rush specialist that struggled against the run. Eberflus defense needs players like this as he rarely blitzes the QB , need his front 4 to generate quick pressure, which Donovan can do.

This is going to be interesting. It's possible Donovan E ends up being the best pass rusher in the class. He's 21 and his technique is just so good. We're not talking potential with Randy Gregory. This dude already has NFL technique.

I can't remember who said Dwight Freeny, but someone made that comp

EZ is also a better run defenders than people think.

@ The 1.09 point the video says that we are stacked at the DL.
Are we better? I believe yes, but definitely not stacked.

Exactly, I mean just to add to that Fowler's also brought back Sam Williams will be back when Overshown gets back this looks like a very dangerous pass rush team when they put teams in position to pass rush.

But that's the thing our teams like the Eagles in game one just OK and very patient running the ball 25 to 30 times and testing that middle of our defense keeping it low scoring with a great defense that they have and not giving us the opportunity to pass rush it's how Dan Quinn's teams are vulnerable and the Cowboys could be just that as well so that's why we need all of camp to get this figured out hopefully some of these big dudes some of these beef and turn out to be pretty solid..

So many X factors is making this the most interesting camp and preseason we've had in a long time so I'm looking forward to it..

In 2024 along with his 16.5 sacks he had 21 TFL's ; 37 solo & 43 asst (80) tackles & 3 forced fumbles in 12 games. He also had 1 PD (not sure what that is - maybe pass defensed)

His 4 year career stats are: 47 games; 30 sacks; 113 solo; 102 asst; 215 comb tackles; 8 forced fumbles & 4 PD.
Basically, he has the equivalent of 37.5 sacks in 2024.

Yes, they have to be able to hold up on the early downs.

20 something TFL...basically, those are sacks.
Yeah they are typically not as big of losses as sacks are, but this is the hidden value in run defense that goes ignored because its not as sexy of a stat like a sack is. Making that 1st and 10 run into a 2nd and 12 situation or the 2nd and 7 run into a 3rd and 9 is what gives these pass rush specialist the ability to break the bank when they hit free agency. Defenders who can make explosive plays against the run might be the most under valued players in the sport.

It's like a sack because it's a wasted down. But I hear you.

Ezeiruaku seems like a smart player. That's a big advantage over Sam Williams. If he can gain 10 or 15 lbs and maintain his quickness he could be pretty good lining up opposite side of Micah Parsons.
He has more passs rush moves than mist veterans and he’s just a rookie. I imagine that will use him early in obvious passing situations but with him opposite Micah it’s gonna mean he’s never gonna get double teamed. And a RB has to decide who to help with. He also has the speed to drop in coverage so you could really run some wild defensive fronts with he and Micah

The main thing is hold the edge, force RB back inside and with his arms he should be able to do that. We got gutted a lot last year on edge runs because the DE let the rb get outside. His speed helps with that too

I don't know how good he can be against the run in the NFL at under 250 lbs. With him, Micah, and Osa all undersized, we're awfully small on the DL.
I think that's why we'll see Kneeland at end on early downs or shorter-yardage situations, and possibly Turner on the other end depending on how we play Micah. I think we want Eze fresh for rushing the passer, so there's less reason to wear him down. Ultimately, you want players out there who can do both because teams don't always run on first down or in short-yardage situations, but if you don't have that, you have to pick your battles. No player can play every snaps, so the best time to rest Parsons and Eze is when a run is likely.
