So everyone keeps killing romo. Everyone Keeps wanting everyone fired. I keep seeing everyone saying jimmy johnson would bench romo and other players if they struggled.

well here is proof that even hall of famers have bad days in big games and that Jimmy certainly did not bench his best players.

Now here are three quick mistakes from aikman from an important big game in november of 91 in Detroit. Please note that the offense was forced to score a ton of points in this game and this season because the defense had issues. they couldnt sack the qb or pressure him and we had a miserable secondary.

So Here they are.....Pay particular attention to the second one, Throw to novacek that is behind him and picked...with emmit open in the flat....Look and sound familiar? ANd the last int was a game clincher.

Sorry I accidentally boosted the volume and caused it to be distorted, please turn down your speakers.

Aikman fumbles backed up on his own end of the field.

Here is the throw behind novacek which looks oh so familiar.

ANd here is aikman throwing a game clincher.

He also missed a wide open aikman and harper in this game on deep throws!

the next week he had a good game agains phoenix in a 27-7 blowout.

Troy Aikman won a Superbowl in his 4th year as a starter.

Romo is at the first of his 3rd year as a starter.

A. I am not comparing them at all. I am comparing the situations. Everyone has bad games. Do I think romo is aikman, no I dont. But at this point in november of 91 Aikman hadnt proved much yet. And when an offense needs to carry a team its a giant burden on the quarterback.

B. that was what aikman had to do in 91 and if he made any mistakes the games ended up blowouts.

Thats all. So again, I dont think romo is aikman and never have. I dont think this team is anything like those teams and never have.

What I do think this shows is that great players made similar mistakes, and jimmy johnson didnt bench the starting qb after making these mistakes.

Gladly neither QC or Hutch could carry Romo jock let alone play as well as him

Carter 29 TD in 3 years with 26 ints Wow what a great player that is. Hell Romo put up 36 TD in one season. We can talk Hutch if you would like and his whopping 8 TD and 7 ints if you would like

Troy Aikman was 24 years old when this game was played and had been on an NFL roster 2 seasons and this was a few games into his 3rd.

Tony Romo is now 29 years old, and has been on an NFL roster 6 years and a few games into his 7th.

And he was the number 1 pick and consesus best qb in the draft.

and again, I am comparing situations.

Do you want me to put videos of steve young playing completely brain dead against washington in 92, the game before we beat them? Cause I can and he did. He was further along than aikman and had one of the best rosters ever created around him.

It was October of 1991. I was there. Not fun at all (we lost 34-10). Neither was the playoff game in Detroit that year (we lost 38-6).

Our 37-3 win in Detroit the next year was much more fun to attend, especially sitting in the same section as the players' families.

It's funny how the critics want Romo to be just like some of the greatest players of all-time but don't want him compared to them when it doesn't suit their opinion.

Trot Aikman came from a "pro like" program at a major institution.

Romo came from a small college with a "high school" like program.

In his first few years in the league Romo had to learn what Aikman was already taught in college.

Sorry but that is just facts.

Now let me make it clear that Troy Aikman is my favorite player of all time ..... and I would trade Romo, Roy, Barber, and Felix for a 24 year old version of him back.

I think it is the Romo supporters (and I include myself in that number) who wince a bit at the comparisons. I think Aikman's resume is pretty much complete. It was a hall of fame one.

The only reason I brought up the ages and experience is I get tired of comparisons that are dishonest. (don't mean purposely dishonest) Lets look at that film footage of Romo at 24 in his 3rd year. He hadn't seen the field yet, and with good reason, he wasn't even ready.

Why do we have to confuse the issue anyway. Isn't the issue learning to play some solid, mistake free football in high pressure games?

Its that simple. He is solid in every other area. So lets just see that happen and things will be great.

I don't disagree with you Zrin. I'm not dogging Tony because he had to learn. I'm just trying to say the comparisons are a bit silly anyway. Each has his own story. Each has his own challenges. Each has to find his own way. You don't try to build up YOUR guy by finding footage that says, "hey someone else struggled too!" Like we didn't already know that Michael Jordan had bad games?????

i'm just sick of this current team being compared to one of the greatest teams of all time. now Theebs wasn't trying to do that but in a way he did. people keep saying "well Troy struggled and he turned out fine". problem is Tony is not Troy or Roger. Troy was also a young kid on a very bad team hence why he was the #1 pick. It just gets old seeing the 90s dynasty set as an example to give hope for this current team. that was one of the greatest teams assembled from top to bottom. the only thing this team has over that dynasty team is the TE position and we still only use one of them so far. other than the TE position this team is no where near that team in the early 90s and this team will never be as good as that dynasty.

Yes Troy was a Hall a Famer on a team with other hall of famers and yet was still prone to having bad games. Comparision skill wise Troy and Romo are nothing alike both play a different style. You can't compare Staubach
and Troy either because again each relied on a different set of skills they possessed

The whole point of this thread was to maybe make people stop and think before they post things like.....

Jimmy would have sat the qb if he played this way.
Romo is not good like other qbs, they never threw these ints.
etc..etc..etc..

Just trying to point some people off the ledge. Its not about building up romo at all, its about putting a mirror up to some of the posters who refuse to stop with the firing threads and the play kitna threads.

I understand Theebs, and I agree with you, and I did imply the other. Sorry about that.
