Vikes McKinnie Suspended Four Games, What's The Impact?

NFL suspended Vikings LT Bryant McKinnie four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The projected impact of McKinnie's loss on Minnesota's offense early in the season can't be understated because of the Vikings' lack of good alternatives. A mountain of a man (6'8/335), McKinnie is key to the Vikes' rushing and passing attacks. With guard Artis Hicks now on his blind side, Tarvaris Jackson could struggle to stay upright in the first four weeks.

Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie has been suspended without pay for the team's first four regular-season games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

McKinnie

McKinnie's suspension begins Saturday, the league announced Friday afternoon. He is eligible to return to the Vikings' active roster on Sept. 29 following Minnesota's Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans.

McKinnie faces one felony and four misdemeanor charges stemming from a fight outside a Miami nightclub last February. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Minnesota's starting left tackle for the last 87 games dating to the middle of his rookie season, McKinnie has been reprimanded in the past for off-the-field troubles. Most notably, he was fined one game check for his role in a rowdy boat party with several teammates in 2005. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in that incident.

I am all about keeping it clean but it seems to me the leauge ought to wait until the violations are substantiated in a court

That may cause them to lose a game or two as well.

Tarvaris Jackson is their QB... that alone will lose them a game or two (out of the first 4).

If they announced McKinnie's suspension today, did they also announce Matt Jones'?

The impact is Goodell sucks. He had four months to decide this and waited until a week and a half before the season started.

MCKINNIE SUSPENDED FOUR GAMES

Posted by Mike Florio on August 29, 2008, 5:38 p.m.

The NFL has annouced that Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie has been suspended for the first four games of the 2008 regular season.

Presumably, the suspension is final and all appeals have been exhausted.

The suspension begins tomorrow, August 30. He’s eligible to return on September 29.

McKinnie’s penalty arises from felony charges related to his alleged decision to whack a bouncer in the head with a pole earlier this year. Though the charges haven’t been resolved, McKinnie is a repeat offender — nearly three years ago, he was doing some nasty **** on the Love Boat, and he eventually pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly conduct.

Whats the impact?

Less rushing yards for Adrian Peteson

Or Peterson gets injured in one of the first 4 games, as opposed to the first 8 games.

I'm betting that we aren't getting the full story Rich, and I'd be 99% sure that the Vikes/McKinney knew this was coming.

What? I was told this was going to happen by several Vikings fans a long time ago.

If they knew it was going to happen; you can bet the Vikings were pretty sure of it too.

It might not have become "official" but its been known for awhile.

I'm all for hating on De Fuhrer. But you're waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off on this one.

The impact is that fantasy owners might want to think a little harder about taking AP with their first pick knowing that he's going to be a lot less effective for the first 4 games and could wind up injured due to having to run behind some slacker.

IMO, they shouldn't be taking AP over LT in the first place, but that's a whole 'nuther story.
