The 30-year-old provided a statement to ESPN.com's Ben Goessling explaining his decision:
I'm returning because I want to. I'm a part of this football team and I owe it to the guys I play with and to our coaches. I was planning on coming in this week, and I'm looking forward to getting back on the field. It's what I love to do.

Adrian Peterson drama feels like a waste of time. Gets $12.75M guaranteed if shows up for first game. He'll be there.

I've been watching this game from the sidelines for far too long. My teammates and coaches are important to me. Those relationships matter, and I owe it to those guys. I knew I wanted to come in this week. I had a family obligation last week but I'm ready to put on a Vikings uniform again and get back to work.

The standoff appears to be over. Adrian Peterson is returning to Minnesota.
The All-Pro running back, who was cleared from a suspension two months ago only to enter a contentious situation with the only organization he's ever played for, has shown up to work out with his teammates this week. Peterson and head coach Mike Zimmer will hold a media press conference at 2:30 p.m. local time.

Good. I hope this ends all the non-sense about him coming to the Cowboys.

Man, Peterson did not do himself any favors with this whole thing. I'm glad it's over for this season. I do think there was a legitimate chance of a trade happening prior the draft. Too much smoke for there not to have been fire there. I suspect Minny just wanted a lot more for him than any team wanted to pony up. No idea what the last few weeks were all about, though. Obviously, he wanted a guarantee, but that wasn't coming and he really had no leverage once it was clear MIN was willing to carry his costs this season and nobody stepped up to the plate with draft picks.

It'll be interesting to see if he stays healthy this season or gets a Ratliff-injury. I'd hope he's above that, but he's already tarnished his reputation in MIN so badly, it's hard to put anything past his camp at this point.

Lol

It's like there was NEVER a chance of it happening anyway (looking back)

I do wonder if Zimm would have let him go if there was a juicy offer?

One thing that's been overlooked in all this is perspective from the Vikings' organization and the Viking fans themselves.

They have a young QB who's shown some promise, they have some WR's and some other decent players. They can be a playoff contender with Peterson... Why trade him away?

The Vikings have a pretty good-looking roster.
If Bridgewater keeps developing, the future is bright there.

They do.

Of course many Cowboy fans have not looked at this from the Vikings' perspective.

The Vikings are trying to win themselves this year. And what would it say to their fans to dump their best player.

I have and stated that Bridgewater has a chance to develop into a very good QB if he is not asked to carry the load, Peterson gives them the other weapon so defense can't just pin their ears back and go after the QB. Defensively Minn was 11th in points allowed, gave up 121 a game rushing which was 8th, pass rush the ranked 7th with 41 sacks. Secondary was an issue so Minn addressed that in the draft with Trae Waynes at CB with the 11th overall pick. Not calling them SB contenders but 7-9 last season with a rookie QB who now comes in with a year under his belt and a top RB in the backfield with him they have a shot to make post season

Good points.

I still do wonder... If he was made "an offer he can't refuse" .... Would he build on what he has with picks?

Can they?

They won 7 games against the absolute worst teams the NFL could put in front of them.

"They have some WR's"? Doesn't every team in the league? The two names I see are a free agent bust in Mike Wallace and a 1st round bust in Cordarrelle Patterson.

I think this talk of them being any sort of 'playoff contender' is a fallacy.

With or without Peterson.

With Detroit having their front-4 decimated and with the return of Peterson, I think they have a solid chance at 2nd.

Hear that "pop" Stash?

It's was the "balloon of hope" that some Cowboy fans had of getting the guy. :D

Feel better trying to make someone else feel worse? OK.

But back on the subject of the Vikings making any playoff run, every one of their wins came against the very worst teams in the league. All of whom (outside the sub .500 Panthers) were drafting in this year's Top 10. They earned that distinction by being terrible.

So the Vikings' 7 wins that people want to keep pointing to, came against the worst teams in the league. In fact, the Vikings even managed to lose a game to the dumpster fire known as the 2014 Chicago Bears.

I know we Cowboys fans have respect and a soft spot for Zimmer and Norv, but the fact is that the Vikings just aren't very good yet. And if you aren't very good, cap space and draft picks to get good for the long haul makes a lot more sense than $13 million and no draft picks for one player does.

I'm just funin you some.

Gotta say Stash... I've come to respect you as one the more level-headed Cowboy fans on this board and I'm stunned how over-the-edge you've gone on this whole Peterson thing.

I want the old Stash back. :)

It's just something else I'm passionate about. It's easy to get me worked up if it's something I feel strongly about. If things with the Vikings start going smoothly, the Peterson subject will quickly pass.

That is your opinion, vikes seem to feel different. Vikes did say if someone was willing to offer a lot they would listen outside of that they feel with their young QB that Peterson can be a big help to him and the Vikings team.
