Bob Sansevere: Vikings' Pat Williams doesn't shy from predicting a playoff win
The Vikings will win their first playoff game. It's a guarantee. Anyway, that's what Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams is saying.
Here's how it came about:
I said to Williams on Monday, "Joe Namath waited until the Super Bowl to guarantee a win. You want to guarantee a Super Bowl win today?"
"No, I ain't (giving a) guarantee (for the Super Bowl). We just have to win this first game. I guarantee we win this first game, though," he said. "Yeah, we're going to win this first game."
The Vikings still don't know whom they will face Jan. 17. It could be the Cowboys, Packers or Cardinals. The opponent doesn't matter to Williams.
"We've got to (win). We've got to. We've got to," Williams said. "That's everybody's goal. If we second-guess ourselves, we're going to lose. We've got to (win), and we will."
Later, I tried to get tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to make a guarantee of his own.
"He guaranteed a win?" Shiancoe said of Williams' call. "I can guarantee you we're going to put forth our best effort. I guarantee that. As far as guaranteeing a win, I have a feeling we're going to make a good run. I'm not going to say, 'I guarantee we're going to win.' I guarantee you that we're going to drop some bombs."
