Vikings shopping Aundrae Allison

Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2009 10:29 AM ET
Agent Drew Rosenhaus has posted on his Twitter page an indication that the Minnesota Vikings are shopping receiver Aundrae Allison, and that they will cut him at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

That gives the Vikings little leverage, unless someone wants to acquire Allison's contract.

Allison is under contract through 2010 at salaries of $460,000 this year and $550,000 next year.

I seem to recall us being interested in him when he was drafted.

Odd that the Vikings would be cutting him, it's not like they've got a plethora of talented wide receivers.

They did just sign Percy Harvin

And Harvin will be taking Allison's primary role, which was kickoff returns.

I would bet on Miami. I think Ireland might remember him.

That should speak volumes about his talent.

Not especially.

Given who they have had at QB, I'd give a mulligan.

Especially. The Vikings have no quality receivers (beyond what they drafted yet still unproven) yet they cut someone.

I think it especially speaks volumes about his talent. QB means nothing except that the ball can be gotten to a receiver. A WR has still need to be in position to catch a ball while being covered.

Would you cut Michael Irvin if Q-Car was your QB? I think not.

Nobody is comparing him to Michael Irvin.

As a developmental fifth or sixth WR who has a good history returning kickoffs, I don't hold the fact he hasn't been productive in Minnesota against him. I am not going to act like I have seen him play much since college, but cuts like this do happen and not always because they don't have talent.

From the way all of Minnesota's receivers perform, I'd say there is also an issue with Childress' offense and the player running it. bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice are not bad players, but strange fits. Allison is a similar speed player from my recollection.

Hm well it hard to judge a reciever when they've have T-Jack throwing to them. Given his speed and special teams ability it's worth looking into. He'd make the roster for sure.

They are going to cut him on August 4th? Seems a little early unless they really want to get rid of him.

Is he a better option than Jesse Holley.....

Yes and Stanback. He'd make it as the 5th reciever no doubt. We need to cut ties with Stanback. He's injured yet again.

That is true, I forgot about Stanback and being injured again.

We need another kick/punt returner since Felix and Austin are vital to the offense. I really don't want them returning kicks. Maybe Felix on some occasions.

Seems like with that small a cap figure they would keep him if he was "good" enough.

Found an old SI draft profile on him and it didn't speak well of his work ethic. Which may be the reason they are getting rid of him.
