Several of you have sent to us the image that temporarily appeared on the Vikings' official web site during Sunday night's NFC title game.

Yes, the Vikings had declared victory over the Saints before victory had been secured.

It happened not because anyone connected to the football operation opted prematurely to declare "mission accomplished," but because some guy with the keys to the official computer account published the prepared image prematurely.

Still, football fans are a superstitious lot, as evidenced by the clothes they wear on game day, the food they eat before kickoff, and the specific spot in the room where they sit during the games, often in the fetal position.

In many cases, it's enough to make Rain Man say, "Dude, you should see a doctor about that."

So for those who fear the concept of the jinx, the team's online operation committed the biggest possible faux pas on Sunday night.

Jets too. It's one of those "pre-order" deals where you can cancel if they lose.

Would not be surprised if every team did this if they get to the conference championship. There is a 50/50 chance when you get there.

All four teams had this on the NFL.com shop...I think the Jets were the only one advertising it on their own site.

Every single team that makes it to the final 4 and then the final 2 have shirts and stuff like that already made up in the event that they win. How else would they immediately begin advertising and selling them 20 seconds after the game ends?

This is nothing new.

...to all the gear they roll out with the incorrect winners/score on them?

Do they end up in Somalia or Bangladesh as aid? Are they destroyed?

The international Christian humanitarian aid group works with Major League Baseball, the NFL, and the NBA to collect misprinted merchandise and distribute it to people living in impoverished nations.

I believe I read somewhere, after the Patriots lost the Superbowl, that they take those kind of things and just give them to people without things in poor countries of the world.

So, yeah, you could go some place where they don't have a lot and possibly see a 19-0 Superbowl Champions T-Shirt of the Pats.

Years ago I went bowling here in Tucson with a group of college kids. I saw a pennant that I wanted. It said Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl XIII Champions. We lost that Super Bowl. I offered the owner 5 bucks for it. He passed. I upped it to 10 and he said yes. He asked if I could wait 2 weeks until after the Super Bowl when the NFL decorations were going to come down.

2 weeks later he had learned what he had and wouldn't take 50 for it.

Mistakes like this go way back.

In 2003, I found a Raiders Super Bowl Champs hat from SB 37 at a dollar store outside of Disney World. They lost to the Bucs.

Apparently even the poor in 3rd world countries won't wear some things...

Giants hats - Toilets
