Just read about this on NFL.com and thought I'd share it. I know some people were wanting an ILB but I don't know if this guy could do it or not. The report says he and Mangini's 3-4 are not a fit, but I don't know if that means 3-4 all together or just the way they run it in New York.

Either way I thought this was one interesting report that I hadnt seen on here. If it was, and I missed it, forgive me. (Or if it was and I saw it and forgot, again forgive me.)

If I recall correctly, he's got a decent-sized contract adn is coming off of a major injury.

I would call this a prelude to the Jets releasing him.

Much like the Panthers tried to trade DeShaun Foster before ultimately releasing him.

I thought Vilma hadn't seen a second contract yet...

You may be right about that.

I'm not sure.

I'd be thrilled if we landed Vilma. Bradie and him could wreak havoc inside paired together.

If he could/wanted to be in another 3-4.... we'd have a very, very nice LB group with Ware, James, Vilma, and Spencer.

Young, athletic....

Vilma can cover...

The only reason the Jets are shopping him is because he doesn't fit there 3-4 scheme. This kid is a heck of a player but I don't think he fit our style of D.

Vilma is much better suited to play in the 4-3 where the DLmen cover him up... He's going to a place like Carolina watch and see.

They put Beason at MLB and want to keep Beason at MLB because he was very good for them at MLB.

Vilma doesn't fit there.

Umm he would definitely fit with Carolina, I didn't say Carolina would trade for him but it could be a possibility...

OK, since we are playing Madden. I was actually playing Madden 08 yesterday and finished a season I was on. I got to the FA phase and signed Vilma (he was the highest rated LB available *97 or 98*and I had just opted NOT to re-sign Bobby Carpenter).

Played some pre-season and he didn't look too bad. Then I got to the regular season and he just didn't fit. He was getting eaten alive in my bread and butter blitz play (3-4 Stacked Thunder Blitz something or other). James and Carpenter used to blast through the middle of the line and gets sacks (on passing plays) or TFLs (on rushing plays). Vilma? The RBs had a field day with his hole and he generated less pass rush than Carp, James, or some scrub I drafted (Peterson *rating 77*).

Soooooo, based on my in depth Madden scouting and Vilma's lack of production in a virtual setting, I'm going to have to pass on Vilma. The son of a ***** already cost me huge cap dollars and I'm ready to release him (and re-sign Carp *he's still available on the FA market*) after two weeks. I've tried everything. I even tried to put him in Ellis' spot hoping to generate SOMETHING off the edge (Ellis retired during my off-season). I got NOTHING. So I put James back at the top of the MLB depth chart and pray that they don't run or pass at Vilma.

As you can plainly see, he just doesn't fit here.;)

Is Vilma going to move to WLB or SLB then?

Because Carolina is not moving Beason from the MLB spot.

I could see Vilma going somewhere like Denver or KC.

I agree, it seems that LBs like him with a lot of speed (Gold, Wilson) have had success at Denver recently, and Herm drafted him didnt he, could get him to go to KC.

Yeah he doesnt have a huge deal yet cause he's coming into the last year of his rookie contract. That was commented on in the article I posted.

Also in the article is where I found that they say he doesn't fit Eric's 3-4 so that is what got me wondering if that means he's not a 3-4 guy, all together, or if it was something about the one Eric has in NY that doesn't suit him.
