Yeah, achilles injuries would effect his ability to drive his body/use leverage against OL; good point.

it is rare that you do not recover from one anymore; they are so far ahead of where they were even just 10 years ago its amazing. And honestly that is usually more of a problem when there is one for the quick guys (RB, DB, WR) then the big guys on the lines.

Thanks for that info Burma! Kevin Smith post injury still has me leery but as you pointed out, even being well over a decade ago.

I live in New England, Wilfork has played less than 50% of his snaps at 3-4 Nose since 2008. He played a lot of DE in a 3-4, as well as 3-Tech when the Pats go 4-3.

Yep, the Pats traded up to get him. Dallas had a lot of holes back then. It would have been tough for them to trade up. They ended up trading down to get more picks.

Life is like a circle. Like a circle = (DWARE;)..well Spears technically but Ware fits)

So how many huge DTs have recovered from Achilles tears? I've never even heard of anyone having it.

This is a tough one for Patriot fans. Kind of similar to your situation with Ware. A real tough one. Wilfork has been one of the best players we have had for years on defense and to lose him will be difficult from a sentimental aspect. I just loved the guy. Surprised he would not take a restructure considering his age, contract, and injury recovery.

But football is a business and there is no room for sentiment. Otherwise you would not find yourself in a competitive situation. Still doesn't change the fact that you lose a player that most Patriot fans really liked - me included. The "butt" fumble was a work of art. I thought there might be some loyalty going on here - but, Wilfork wants the best for his family and I do not blame him by looking for more money. His window is closing and I am sure there is some team that will pick him up for the money he wants.

Again, football is a business and teams and players have to do what is right for them. Considering the short term length of players, I don't blame them one bit for going for the best contract. Crazy though that some still wind up broke after making millions over the years. I think some of these guys need to hire financial advisers, or invest in another business before the lights go out.

BTW, the insult to Wilfork's wife was made by a former Patriot player, and he later apologized. Which he should have - that was a low blow.

Oh well, life goes on. This is the time when I do not like the cap, and being able to hang onto a well respected member of your team. But overall the cap is good for football. You lose sometimes. Pats fans are going to be up in arms over this one.

Didn't one of his teammates get busted making fun if his wife being unattractive? Lol
I remember hearing that and feeling bad for the guy
It was Ted Johnson, who was retired when he made those comments. I'm torn between calling him an a-hole for saying what he did, and shrugging my shoulders and saying "when you're right, you're right."
