Vincent Jackson suspended

Lost, at times, in the contractual dispute between the Chargers and receiver Vincent Jackson is the fact that Jackson faces a suspension in the wake of a pair of DUI incidents.

Per a league source, a team with interest in Jackson has learned that he's expecting a four-game suspension from the league office.

In 2007, then-Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen received a four-game suspension after a second DUI. On appeal, the league reduced his sanction to two games.

For Jackson, he also has pleaded guilty to knowingly driving with a suspended license after an arrest that occurred on the way to a playoff loss to the Jets. After that arrest, Jackson expressed defiance and indignation; if the league has heard the audio of his remarks, we doubt that Jackson will earn any brownie points.

The fact that Jackson faces a suspension likely has made him less inclined to sign his tender offer before the regular-season begins. The reality that he could miss as many as four games could make teams interested in trading for him less inclined to do so.

So he gets 4 games after his 2nd offense, man Goodell is hard on these guys. :lmao:

I believe thats standard.

I may be wrong, but I believe everyone gets sort of a free pass on their first offense. No suspension, and it isn't reported. They just quietly enter the NFL's monitoring program. It's the 2nd offense that they get suspended, typically 4 games.

Vincent Jackson suspended three games

Holdout or not, Vincent Jackson won't suit up during the first three games of the regular season.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the NFL suspended the disgruntled Chargers wide receiver three games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. This news likely comes as a small relief to Jackson, who was expecting a four game suspension.

The suspension could be reduced upon appeal. Defensive end Jared Allen got a four game suspension reduced to two games after two DUI arrests. Jackson pled guilty in February to DUI, his second conviction.

Jackson picked an outstanding time to get suspended. The unsigned restricted free agent is threatening to skip the first half of the season because he wants a new contract from the Chargers that doesn't appear forthcoming.

Jackson remains on the block, but the suspension doesn't affect his trade value much. Everyone knew it was coming. Now we'll have to see if Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith can find a suitor willing to give up enough so that Jackson can spend his time off while on another roster.

I think Goodell is just being mean, he must not like San Deigo. Has some hidden bone to pick with them. :laugh2:

Just kidding
I agree it is pretty much standard but again other things can factor in that could cause a longer suspension you can only treat something as equal if all factors are equal but rarely are 2 offenses exactly the same.

Go get him Danny Snyderbrenner. He's all yours. Give up your 1st and 5th rd picks next year and pay Jackson $10mil/year. Do it. :D
