Merriman would be a great pickup at 11
I also like Crowder for the next pick
then troy Williamson ( if Dallas goes more D on this pick then...

I was wondering if anybody has mentioned anything on Vincent Jackson from Northern Colorado. He's projected to go third round and I think could be a sleeper pick up for the cowboys... HE'S 6'6" AND a little faster than Mike Williams and is said to use his height to his advantage... he's supposedly a really physical reciever.....

look him up...

I watched him at the combine and he made himself some money. Put an Eagles Jersey on him and would think you were watching TO. Very fluid with soft hands but so very raw.

I would love him in Round 4 if we address the WR needs before that.

A 6-5 241lb WR in the NFL?

Sorry, I just don't see it.

YOu haven't watched David Boston play before? He played at over 250 a couple of years ago.

This is a good thing?

Here's Boston's pathetic rundown...

In 70 games he's caught 311 passes and 25 TD's, which comes out to about 4.4 catches a game and 5 TD's a year....WOW!

BTW, he didn't even play last year.

Go figure

first of all if this man could stay healthy and quit getting injured he would be a dominant receiver... and the fact that the man is like 6'6" his weight is dispurpsed and better for his size...it's muscle not fat...

Vincent Jackson measured in at 6-4.6 or 6-4 3/4 at the combine. So, I don't know where you're getting that he's 6-6. I'll be generous and say that he's 6-5 but that's it. Since he didn't play against top level competition at Northern Colorado, his stats are going to be inflated to begin with. According to reports I've read, he isn't a great route runner and doesn't look very fluid or smooth at all. He's certainly not a threat after the catch and definitely isn't going to stretch the field with a 4.56 forty. Jackson's biggest attributes are his soft hands and leaping ability with a 39 inch VJ at the combine. However, considering that he's played a lot of basketball it's really not so uncommon. For example, Matt Jones who is very similar in size to Jackson also played basketball and had an even better 39-1/2 inch VJ. I know that measurables don't tell you everything about a prospect, but when that prospect comes from a small school what else can you really count on?

In short, I think Jackson is a 4th round pick at best and would project better as a TE in the NFL.

But if you go by those reports alone, he kinda sounds like Mike Williams.

I think Jackson will go in the third (near Matt Jones) and level of competition means less to me when you're talking about a skill position player with "out of the box" measurables like Jackson's. He reminds me of a thicker Clarence Moore, the 6'5 WR from Northern Arizona who was a 6th rd steal for the Ravens last year. Also, Gates' season in San Diego is going to usher a run on basketballers with proven football production. Position is less relevant in the red zone.

Mike Williams played in pro style offense at USC with Coslet/Chow and has proven himself against some of the best DB's in college football...that's the big difference here. Comparing Jackson to Williams is a bit ridiculous don't you think? As far as Vincent being a steal in the later rounds...well so could a lot of other small school receivers. It really doesn't make Jackson a better prospect just a more sexy one.

Uhhh, 4.4 catches per game works out to SEVENTY catches a season...

What's so "pathetic" about that??

Yes, I do think its ridiculous to compare Jackson to Williams as a prospect. That's why I didn't do it. You noted his scouting report weaknesses and 40 time and I simply pointed out that they were similar to Williams'. You discount his small school production and think he's a day two pick; I think he's a third rounder, maybe OUR third rounder is we acquire one and don't sign a FA WR.

For the record, there is NO other small school prospect with Jackson's hands, leaping ability and size/speed ratio. Yes, he's raw, but he demonstrated at the Senior bowl practices that he could compete with the big boys and everyone acknowledges that he is a monster. Three years ago, he would've been badly downgraded because he doesn't fit the WR mold. That won't happen this year.

When you're 8th overall pick in the 1999 draft and already on your 3rd team...it's pathetic.
