Virus Free Laptops

What do you mean it doesn't support "Chrome"?

Err, that isn't really possible. Did they come out and say that? Thatd be really strange.
Most likely due to IT disabling it. No so much a compatibility issue as an administration one. I am assuming he can sign into chrome on other devices, but not the company issued units.
I still have chrome but I can't log into my own Chrome account for Bookmarks. I can't sync bookmarks. I can't save passwords etc.

Thanks Sam. You are the man. I don't need Office on this new laptop. I will do surfing sports websites currently blocked on my work laptop and also do my banking etc. Looks like Chromebook should just be fine?

If it's mostly web surfing. It should be fine!

Its an administrator thing. Your IT department most likely disabled it. MY IT department did this as well. I use a portable installation from a USB drive. Works fine.

I run the IT department, so I don't have those restrictions. :D
I run the "local IT department". I am the only one on the rig I work on with ANY PC experience at all. That said, I try my best to get out of anything to do with IT if I can.

We are still on the company domain though, so I do have to get involved with a good bit of the stuff they do.

Massive amounts of technical voodoo speeching accompanied by some happy, lovey words in closing.
Peace, Love, and DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS!
Where can I get the Cliff's Notes version of this? All this tech talk makes my nose bleed.
Now, I am depressed, Why own a computer? Shunpike was using banking as code for frolicking among the fun sites.
HAH! Coach, you've been had. Time to repent and have your laptop sprinkled with Holy Water. Might as well take your iPad in too.

I am not a big fan of google /Microsoft or apple

*my choice would be TrueOS formally known as PC-BSD a UNIX like ( not Linux)
*you can go with any distro of Linux ( MintOS, Debian, ClearOS, Slackware etc....)thousands of free software.
*you can install Microsoft office/Photoshop etc... on Linux using Wine or Crossover.
*Install Linux inside windows using a Virtual Box.
Good Luck

Yeah, roughnecks idea about putting "chrome portable" on a usb should work for you.

here is an amazon search of chromebooks with at least 4G memory.
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st_...7817222011&qid=1535133384&sort=price-asc-rank

as i mentioned, i have used chromebooks with no virus protection software for surfing the internet with no problem. do get at least 4G memory so you can be on many pages at the same time. although you could of course purchase antivirus software.

downsides of chromebooks - need cloud printer for printing (cheap but necessary) and a pain to connect to other devices like scanners. google does not support most devices because apparently device control software (drivers) is a common way for virus/malware to attack. the other downside is it provides freeware software for mimicking ms office which are not that compatible. that is why i keep a separate pc laptop that i purchase antivirus software for, though i avoid surfing on the internet with it.
