viruses/spyware help!

i think i have a virus! this thing comes up at the top of the page and says "warning your computer may be infected by spyware or addware click here to remove them" i click there and it is some anitvirus program. i can't get it to work cause it asks for your email and serial key to register. i don't know what a serial key is. also my backround changed and is now red with this symbol and below it it says "download privacy protection software now" my question is what do i do?

you probally download a spyware program.....that will keep on asking u to run it....

check your add and remove app and see if that app is there and uninstall...

got to start....run.....and type in msconfig.......then click on tab called startup and look to see if its there and uncheck it.


download adaware.....free from download.com and do the updates and run it.....it will clean up all spyware.

also another good tool is ccleaner from download.com....nice app to run to clean up temp files and registry...

Ouch....that is a tough virus to get rid of. I fixed a coworkers computer that had it and it took a while.

I cleaned it with a combination of norton antivirus and adaware spyware remover.


You clicked on DD's pm didn't you?

so i downloaded adaware yet i can't find it. i'm starting to think i'm screwed.

Do you have XP?

If you can just go to start....programs....accessories....system tools and do a system restore......go back a few days or before you had this virus.....

If your system restore isnt enabled.....then go to start....run command and type in msconfig.

A window will open and go to startup tab

uncheck the startup file that is causing the problem....

Download adaware.....

install and run it........run the free version...

if that doesnt get rid of the problem.......try this utility......called hijackthis..

click on system scan.....and delete the file that is causing the popup virus...

btw....did you go to add and remove programs on the control panel and uninstall this popup virus ??????

thanks mash! I did the system restore and that's what fixed it. you work with computers? man thanks again you just saved me 200-300 bucks. i'm going to Texas stadium for the 1st time this season so if you go to the same game beers on me.

I work with computers here in Ontario Canada.....wish I had the funds see a Cowboy game live at Texas Stadium.....

You should really download adaware and run it once a week or so........that one and spybot are very good free spy removal programs.
