I hope Paypal dies a horrible death. They have robbed so many people of their money.

===============================================

Visa announced on Wednesday it is planning a new service that will let U.S. customers send money directly to one another, presenting new competition to PayPal.

Visa already lets people send money to Visa accounts in many other countries, but this will be the first time it will offer the service in the U.S.

People who use banks that participate in the new program will be able to send money directly to someone's Visa account by entering the recipient's Visa account number, e-mail address or mobile-phone number in an online payment form.

Complete Story

I've never had an issue with paypal. I use it often and I can send money to someone as a gift with no fees.

There may have been a story or something I missed with it but so far, it's all been good for me.

Thus far I have never been screwed over by them either, but they are notorious for ripping people off. They use their "agreement" that *YOU* agree too to protect them after they rip you off. (it basically says, you can't see them if they take your money)

Maybe people thought after Ebay bought them they would clean that up and for the most part it wasn't as bad as it was. BUT, even with Ebay now owning them, they are still known to steal people money and never give it back.

I have used PayPal for a long time too, .. (ha ha, I just this second got an email from PayPal) ... anyway I have used them many times without a hitch.

About a year and a half ago, someone hacked into my PayPal account and bought on-line poker chips in the middle of the night. $150 a pop, about 17 times.

PayPal recognized that was out of character for my account and stopped it at 10 times.

They took care of everything, .. it didn't cost me a dime.

So I'm good with PayPal, needless to say.

Ive been an avid business member of Paypal since 2000 and I haven't had a single complaint about them ever.

I don't see the whole rip-off that some are complaining about. I can even send money for free to friends and family w/o being charges for receiving it.

Paypal has been great for me personally.

I'm not sure how they can "steal" anything. Are you saying they just arbitrarily deduct funds from your account or deduct the wrong amount when you make a transaction?

I'm not being contentious, just trying to figure it out.

No, here is what they would do. You would do some business and receive money. Whoever sent you the money would make a complain. (real or not) Paypal would freeze your assets and start an investigation. If they were unable to resolve the investigation, you would not get your money back. Nor would the person who complained in the first place. They would just freeze the money and the money just disappears. (obviously they took it)

Google Paypal stealing or freezing funds.

They don't steal or freeze your accounts. They place "HOLDS" on those specific transactions under investigation.

I have had a few of these done on me where I paid for an item but it never arrived. I would place my complaint w/ paypal and they would place on hold the offending buyers/sellers funds for that transaction and if it shows the buyer never sent the item w/ tracking information/receipts, then PayPal would reimburse me the monies from the seller.

It doesn't stop you from continueing to use your PayPal funds for other stuff, at least in my experience.

I'm not saying they do it every time, but they have been known to do it. Google it, there aren't just one or two people that claim this. There are hundred if not thousands. You should just be glad it hasn't yet happen to you. It was horrendously bad before Ebay purchased them.

I've used Amazon Payments, Google Checkout, etc before using Paypal. It's basically the last resort.

I've never been screwed over by paypal, but I've had friends who've been defrauded by buyers and Paypal basically said too bad. Also, if it is an online good (i.e. an e-coupon to Staples), and it was no good, Paypal will NOT return your money at all. Paypal will not cover these types of disputes.

That's the whole thing of it. I've only had one issue with this but I wasn't able to use the account until it was cleared up. Unfairly I might add.

I sold a lady an antique pillow tubing. I've sold several in the past. This particular tubing was printed with "pillow tubing" right on the item in permanent blue ink (in 1/2 inch lettering) from the factory. The lady filed a claim with PayPal that it wasn't pillow tubing. I submitted photos that showed the stamped words on the item but they still awarded the buyer a refund.

So the lying buyer got full amount of item refunded plus shipping and decided to keep the tubing!

I was left with nothing but a frozen account. Since I had already emptied my PayPal balance they froze my account until I refunded the buyer. So I was not able to make any transactions until the buyer was left with my tubing and my money.

Buyers have slowly been catching on that they can take advantage of sellers this way.

edit to add: I'm glad to hear Visa is taking this step. I will not use PayPal to sell another item. I've used them for buying but I've stopped selling because of this situation and raising fees on eBay.

My hair stylist lost $10k just this way. There was an issue relating to small under $50.00 transaction and PayPal decided to confiscate all the funds in her account. She never recovered any of her hard earned money.

Grown adults actually subscribe to this crazy nonsense?

So we are supposed to believe that Paypal is allowed to continue on w/ its doors flung open for millions in the world to use, but is secretly freezing accounts and seizing everyones money in the process.

That is GENIUS.

That's all I have to do?

Same crap with me, but the person charged $500 for freaking Farmville of all things. I sent PayPal a complaint and got my money refunded. Zynga supposedly had massive security issues at the time and people were exploiting their service to get into PayPal somehow.

Paypal is operating, essentially, as an unregulated bank. They are very careful to skirt things that might cause them to become a regulated bank. They are also, essentially, Ebay right now. Note that Ebay has set it up so you can only use Paypal. That's so they can hit everyone multiple times for each transaction.

Paypal can close down your account and 'investigate' for any reason. They have an algorithm that checks accounts for 'unusual activity', one that can lock the account without any human intervention. And there is precious little you can do to get them to move on it. Even if they decide to unlock it six months later, they have snagged all the interest on it in the interim.

Interesting case, the game designer who made the game Minecraft happened to go on vacation right when the game started to become a big hit. Paypal locked his account, with over a million dollars in it. They got to keep the interest. They also kept accepting money into the account, even though that was what triggered the lock in the first place.

So yes, they can do all that. If you've had no trouble with Paypal, just consider yourself lucky.

What sucked for me in the past was that I was only allowed to withdraw $500 a month from my paypal account to my bank account. I had $600ish dollars in there due to selling a Tivo Premiere Lifetime unit, and then only to find out I couldn't transfer everything to my bank.
