Vista home network setup

Anyone care to walk me through this supposedly new improved home networking on Vista? I never had a problem setting it up before but vista keeps telling me theres no network to connect to. It connects to the ney biu cant find any of the other PC's on my home network

I don't have it installed anymore but I wasn't able to see shared files on it from my xp machine.

I haven't even attempted to install the lastest release.
