Vita Vea or Derwin James

The Cowboys had a 3rd round grade on Xavier Woods before the draft last year. If that is true, then they might believe that Woods is viable candidate for the starting Free Safety position on a long-term bases. If that is true, then you have to believe that Vea would be the pick over James - unless the Cowboys want to start James at Strong Safety.

(in point of fact, the Cowboys has 2nd round grades on Charlton, Awuzie and Lewis, and 3rd round grades on both Switzer and Woods. If the Cowboys evaluation is correct, then they got really good value out of their top 5 picks last season, even if the last 4 picks are forgettable.)

The book on Derwin is he can play both, but he would be an ideal SS.

I'm not saying Vita is the best player available in the draft, but I think he could help the Cowboys more than anyone available in the draft.

It's about taking a strength and making it dominant. Plain and simple. Again...just like Zeke did for that offensive line in 2016. And we could potentially have that on both sides of the ball in 2018.

<Shutters>

:omg:

Please Vea. He changes the entire complexity of the team. If everyone stayed and Irving matures, that DL with Vea could be better than the Rams in 2 years.

Day 1 it’d be close to the Eagles starting front 4. Only thing it would need is depth and a true speed rusher.

I will say Vita Vea....because you have capable Pass Rushers in Lawrence and Irving. But Vea.....adds that player in the middle that stuffs the run and takes heat off the linebackers. Me personally I would take Vea....at #19 than at #50 take Safety Harrison from Alabama and make my Defense better. I personally don' think they need a WR really....i would cross my fingers and hope Josey Jewel is there with the 3rd pick or package one of our extra picks to get him.

Vea....DT. Washington
Harrison.....Safety....Alabama
Jewel....LB.....Iowa

I would be very happy with starting to build our very own legend of boom.

Harrison is another Kavon Frazier not a centerfield help in coverage guy which is what is needed

Not sure which is worse...having a 3rd round grade on Woods or waiting until the 6th round to trade for a guy you had a 3rd round grade on.

James. He might be the best player in this entire draft. Draft James in the 1st, Nathan Shepard in the 3rd and let's roll.

If you could leave the draft with one of these two, which would you choose
I would prefer James because I believe Safety remains a position where we lack talent. If the team is moving Byron Jones to corner, Heath and Woods are average to below average NFL safeties.

James easily. We don't have a starting caliber safety on the roster. Heath is the closest. Woods, I don't think, is much more than a very good backup. Frazier is a box guy.

We have quality starting DTs in Irving and Collins. Price should be good as a rotational 1T. And we can find a plugged later in the draft. We also have the flexibility of moving Crawford and possibly Taco inside on passing downs.

That and I see Vea as more of a one trick pony. He is no where near Cox or Donald.

I like both but I think that James would have more of an impact on this defense.

He’d be all over the field and his alpha dog mentality would take hold on defense just like Elliott’s did on offense.

Typically, I’d go DL over Safety... but in this case, I think James would be the right choice.

I just don't think we have any interest in Vea. On the other hand, I can actually see them trading up a few spots if James falls close enough....and it could very well happen.
