Vital to implement TE Jake Ferguson back into this offense

IM not rambling.. im just showing how ridiculous it is for ANY poster on this board to comment about what the coaches think about players. If you arent in coaches meetings, those comments are just foolish.

i said what I said.
Regression is bad son

I agree 100%. Even after listening to a coach in a press conference talk about the team, you still don't know what they really think in closed door meetings.

As a 4th round pick rookie, Jake Ferguson flashed athleticism and big play run after catch skills (the patent leap frog jump plays)

- In 2023, he was clearly gaining a rapport with Dak Prescott, ( and it's only with Dak ) ..do i think Fergy will/could be a stand out. Based off those promising flashes i thought Fergy could eventually be a Pro Bowl TE.

- With Cooper Rush subbing for an injured Dak, McCarthy's under-utlizing him, and a wicked concussion in week 11, that could've had that much more ill effect on him, Ferguson really took a major step back in '24.
Zero TDs in 2024, isn't a ringing endorsement.

- Oddly, even after his promising, display rookie year it was wide spread that the rumor the Cowboys were looking for a new starting TE ..thus the whispering rumors of draft interest in TEs Dalton Kincaid,(Bills) ..and Sam Laporta (Lions) ..before settling on drafting 2nd rd. bust TE Luke Schoonmaker..

- To this day, That Luke pick still burns at me.
But to me, it is vital to implement Ferguson back into this offense. With Opposing defenses having to defend and focus on both Lamb & Pickens, things should open up opportunity for Fergy in 2025.
If it means putting the same clown that had about 6 untimely false starts, 3 holding penalties, and 2 huge fumbles last year in a somehow larger role...?

Gotta tell ya- I'm hesitant.

Tomlin was about as blunt as I have seen in a long time about Pickens. All he said was the young man needed to grow up....lol.
I bet if we were at the bar hanging out having a beer, Tomlin would have had a lot more to say than that.

An NFL coach has an incredibly tough job to do, and they mostly need to remain positive and wear kid gloves when dicussing individual players.

What do we expect the coaches to say about an undrafted, 5th string TE? well, this kid isnt really what we want or need at the position. Hes likely getting cut and MAYBE he will be a practice squad player?

Or, uea this kid is really looking good. he comes to work everyday and is giving us everything he has. I cant ask for anything more from player X.

What was that old movie with I believe Costner... maybe not Costner. Anyways, he taught the rookie baseball kid how to do interviews. Talks a whole lot and says nothing? Yep.... thats how it works.

What do you say about a QB that you traded for and made a mistake.

"He is a great kid, love his personality and his work-ethic. He is a great athlete with lots of upside potential."

In reality, he needs to fix his foot work, change his throwing motion, still can't read a defense, and he can only throw a fast ball.

He will be lucky to even step on the field if QB 1 goes down.

Wow, this sounds a lot like Phenom Trance.

Fergs attitude may be his best asset on offense. Love the TE play but his attitude sets the tone and helps fire up the O.

Adding Pickens and Booker to that is kindling for something special.
Yes, we desperately needed more dogs on this team.

Keep in mind that Ferguson was added to the 2023 Pro Bowl roster and he had 71 catches and 5 TDs.

Ferguson pro bowl appearance Not only marked his first pro bowl, but also the first time a Cowboys TE made the pro bowl since Jason Witten in 2017.

So he's known around the nfl and definitely no slouch.

He is though....The Cowboys use 2TE sets about as much as anyone the last couple of years.

In his two years in the league Schoon has:

799 offensive snaps (24 snaps per game avg)
379 passing snaps
295 routes ran
*115 of those ran from the slot
*28 of those ran from out wide
49 targets
36 catches
313 yards
3 TDs

The playing time he has received, roughly 400 snaps a season isnt bad at all for a 2nd TE on the depth chart. The overall production is just bad. He did move into lower end starter territory this past season with 241 yards on 179 routes ran....1.35Y/RR was good for 23rd in the league last year among TEs.
Yeah but 49 targets in two years……

No surprise here, the real winner will be Ferg between Lamb and Pickens. He'll get a LB on him every time.

Is he though? Seems like one solid year out of 3…..

Exactly which is why I don’t think anyone can judge Schoon when he hasn’t gotten much snaps. He got some last year and was solid
We did not even know what we had with Ferguson, and that is why we drafted Schoon in the first place.

We had no idea what we had in Shultz and brought Witten back from retirement for no reason whatsoever.

Oh I think we knew…..I liked Ferg but they still went and drafted Luke so maybe it was something they didnt like.
