Von Miller: Blocks like Leonard Fournette’s on Micah Parsons should be illegal

Someone posted the video in another thread. Fornette absolutely did leave his feet to launch himself forward and upward into Parsons. But he used his shoulder pad to contact Parson's helmet. I agree with Von Miller. If they want to take concussions out of that game, blindside hits like that one to the opponents helmet should be illegal. It would not shock me if they make it illegal in the off season.

He left his feet after contact. The rules say it has to be before to be called a launch AND uses the helmet, not shoulder. Use the slider on the video below to use slow motion to show when Fornette leaves both feet.

Both feet left at the same time of impact but sure looked like it was to the helmet..

No. Both feet are on the ground until after impact. You even see the rubber pellets kick up from the first foot leaving the ground after impact. To the helmet? That can be debated, sure.

It was a legal block. You just can't hit a player that is already engaged down low.

The problem here is Lenny was kind of hiding behind the offensive lineman. Parsons didn't see him until he got popped.

This also isn't a launch.

No. His second foot dragged on the ground until well after impact. To the helmet? That's debatable.
I never cared about the feet leaving. It was the shot to the head. I see both sides. It was timed right. A split second earlier and he would have been tangled up and engaged with the LT.

I just love the fact that Parsons has future HOFer like Von Miller battling for him.

There is clearly mutual admiration society going on between the two.

Oh what could have been. :banghead:

I acknowledge he used his shoulder and not his helmet. But he left his feet in the act of blocking. It was one continuous motion which is what launching is. The point is, Parsons looked a little dazed and it was an unnecessary blow to the head.

The rules say verbatim, "leaves both feet prior to contact." Not a launch according to the rules. Unnecessary blow to the head? Yes.
