Vontaze Burfict Question

I am a little surprised by the ASU fans regarding Burfict. Burfict's 2011 season does not measure up to his 2009 and 2010 seasons that is obvious. But think of the mitigating factors going into his JR year.

Burfict was considered the "meanest man in football" and the officials absolutely hated him. There are allegations that the firing of 11 PAC 12officials after the 2009 season had a lot to do with blown personal foul penalties. Burfict went into the 2011 season trying to curb this rep, insisting that the yellow flags were behind him. Erikson and his staff also encouraged he water down his behavior.

And in doing so, his game changed. A guy like Burfict needs to be unleashed, not muzzled, that is what makes him special. To make matters worse, Erikson lost control of his team, it was every player, not just Burfict, that flat out quit on the season. Again, Erikson and his staff lost the entire team.

If Burfict comes out, I hope the Cowboys are smart enough to take him. The guy is 6'3 255 of athletic fury. Put him on the edge opposite Ware and let him go kill QBs. Burfict has great instincts, he just needs to be allowed to use it.

He'd be treated like the next RW31 by the end of his second season.

I agree, I think he's gonna fall 2 the 2nd-4th and hope the Cowboys can get him somewhere around that area......he would be a steal there.

He can play ILB but I also think he can play OLB also, so I'm sure Rob would like his versatility.

my pet cat. i wouldn't want to see him on any other defense but ours

He plays MLB @ ASU, doesn't mean he can't change to OLB though.

I agree that Erickson tried to Muzzle him this year but it had to be done. The guy was getting 2-3 personal foul penalties a game! That wouldn't fly in the NFL, his butt would be on the bench if that happened. He has to learn how to unleash his "fury" during the play, not after.

If we didnt spend a 2nd on Carter and already have Lee, I would be more for drafting Burfict but we did..

That's the thing, people keep talking about Erickson supposedly "muzzling" him, but he was still committing a bunch of personal fouls and needless penalties.

Worse though, was his lack of effort and apparent heart/disinterest during the games. I watched apx. four ASU games this year and was woefully disappointed in him. I wrote about it numerous times through the course of the year.
