The No brainers here are:
Reggie White
Troy Aikman
Art Monk
I know most will probably think this is just me being a homer and just hating on the Commanders, but I would put Irvin in as a no brainer before I would Monk. Don't get me wrong, Monk was a very good WR, but to me is a borderline HoF candidate. Monk's stats are more a product of the years he played in the NFL vice true greatness.
Monk played 15 seasons and 3 games of a 16th season. In that time he only produced 5 seasons over 1000 yards, but had 8 seasons of under 800 yards, in 2 of those seasons he played 9 games and in a 3rd he played in 12 games. He finished in the top 10 in receptions 4 times, yards receiving 3 times and TD receptions 1 time.
Irvin played 11 seasons and 4 games of a 12th season. In that time he had 7 seasons over 1000 yards and only had 3 seasons under 800 yards including his 2nd season when he only played 6 games due to injury. He finished in the top 10 in receptions 4 times, yards receiving 6 times and TDs 5 times.
In almost 200 more games than Irvin Monk produced only 817 more yards and 3 TDs. It's very easy to say had Irvin played a full 12th season he would have easily surpassed Monk's stats.
To me the NFL Hall of Fame doesn't have the responsibility to vote in guys who put up great stats simply because they hang around for 15, 16 or 17 years unless those guys have done something that truly establishes their greatness (i.e. Jerry Rice). Probably the biggest thing working against Monk's induction is during the heyday of the Commanders in the late 80's and early 90's Monk wasn't even his team's best WR. Gary Clark was and he's a guy I'm very surprised hasn't gotten more attention. To me he put up some very good stats and should be in the talk.
