I wonder if the driver, I think they said it was a lady, just froze and couldn't comprehend what was about to happen, then came to her senses?

A good friend of mine, Jonathan, and I had to pull a guy out of a car in San Marcos that had driven off the shoulder and into the flooded San Marcos River back in October of 1998. He just sat there, both hands on the wheel, looking straight forward, floating. Jon ripped open the door, and we yanked him out once we figured out that there wasn't anyone else in the vehicle.

File under "it's a small world", it turned out the car belonged to a friend I used to work with at Joe's Crab Shack when we opened the store in San Marcos in 1997. It was her boyfriend driving. They found the car, miles and miles downstream.

He might've come to his senses in time, but who knows how much farther out he would've been and if opening the door would've rolled the car over, trapping him.
