One of the main reasons Wade was fired as coach of the Bills was his unwilliness to fire his special teams coach.

Since this is about ST's I thought I'd just mention that he just said in his press conference that they are looking into, and considering, using Felix Jones and Adam Jones on the KR during the regular season now with the injuries to Stanbach and Austin.

Not true management in Buffalo was just stupid, Bruce Dehaven for 13 years consistently had one of the top ST units in the NFL and after one amazing play i.e. (The Music City Miracle) management deemed him as incompetent.

There dumb

One of his special teams coaches was Bruce Dehaven. Bruce was the special teams coach for Bill Parcells while in Dallas. There were not a lot of special teams coaches to chose from when Wade came to Dallas. Even if he fired Bruce Reed right now, there is not left out there to replace him. I say bring in Bill Bates as a consultant, but Dallas is stuck with who they have right now.

Well, Bill Bates was fired by his good friend Jack Del Rio because the one year he was in charge of the Jax ST they were horrendous. Not a good track record there.

Are we fretting over special teams in general?

Punt coverage was awful in game one, but has been shored up since despite playing a rotating cast.

Any complaints about Adam Jones returning punts?

Kickoff returns have also been impressive and we haven't even given the highly touted Felix Jones a chance to try yet.

It's kickoff coverage that has been the eyesore. Obviously, things need to improve here. Folk's kicks need more hangtime, the players need to stay in their lanes and the newbs must adapt quickly to playing at NFL speed.

But special teams as a whole isn't a disaster.

Bruce Read needs to go. Normally I wouldn't be that harsh but, he was with the Giants a few years ago and there special teams were horrific. In this case it's not the players it's the coach Read just isn't that good.

All though they should have done that before either got hurt.

Bill Bates might have been a great special teams player, but he was not a very effective coach in his stint in Jacksonville.

A consultant is not the same as a coach. At this point I don't see Dallas firing a coach and anything would help. His presence couldn't hurt. Besides I wasn't totally serious. Dallas is going into the season with the current players and staff. If it is good enough to win or not.
