he got a 2yr contract with an option for a 3rd year, or was it a 3yr, with an option for a 4th yr. Anyway I said to myself that the reason he got such a short contract was because of Jerry wanting Garret to be the next HC.

Then a day or two later Mickey was on the morning sports show here in Austin telling the guys that Jerry really wanted to hire Garrett as the HC, but since he had so little coaching experience Jerry felt that Jason would have had a hard time putting together a staff, so that is why he hired Wade to groom Jason and to get fix the defense, that is why Wade's contract is so short.

If anyone feel that I am wrong about the length of Wade's contract please correct me.

But Spags, did say that to the guys on 1300 da zone here in Austin.

Jerra's money is no object
I say buy out WP's contract next year and let's get started on the future.
But I don't think WP is going anywhere for the next two years.

just because he has 3 yrs with an option for a 4th doesnt mean he is staying the whole time

Wade's been doing this a long time...if we win it all this yr or next yr, I could easily see him retiring afterwards

While I generally agree with you David, I don't think Wade is the type to hang it up like that. His one passion in life is coaching so I see him doing that as long as he possibly can.

True, and if he wins it all, I could easily see him coming back to keep the streak alive.

Phillips is 60 years old, I wonder where that puts him as far as the average age of an NFL coach.

He spoke about how he thought he would never get a chance to be a head coach again, so I wouldn't be surprised if he coached throughout his contract, including the option, whatever that may be.

I agree. Unlike Parcells' "It drives me crazy and ruins my health but something compels me to do it" attitude, Wade seems to really enjoy coaching. In fact, he's mentioned almost every week at one point or another how much he likes it and how optimistic he is. I'm also not aware of any health problems he has, despite being older and heavy.

Again, why everyone assumes that we have to have R.J., I don't know. I guess being young and presentable goes a long way.

Oh, and having a history with the Glory Days era.

I don't think he'll retire, Superbowl win or not. He loves coaching, he loves the fact that his dad was a coach and he's carrying on the tradition.

The fact remains that the only reason we want Garrett to have the HC job is because we don't want him to leave, not because we dislike Wade and want him fired. How are you gonna run out a HC that is 12-1? We aren't the Chargers here.

All we have to do is get past the first round for Wade's job to be secure. If JC wants to be a HC within the next 3-4 years, he's gonna have to go elsewhere. Jerry would be a fool to completely snake a guy like Wade for fear of losing another guy.

Putting together a coaching staff is no easy task. Look at Petrino in Atl. I'm pretty sure Wade can win as HC without Garrett. I'm not so sure Garrett can win without Wade. Although, "coaching is overated" just like Marino has said. You have to have the players in place before success is even possible. And then you have to have a coach who knows how to use the player. The right tool for the job AND knowing how to use the tool.

And personality is also key here. Wade has the perfect personality that the players like and want to play for. I don't know about Garrett's personality or style. Players respond well to Wade. How will they respond to Garrett is unknown right now.

Wade is doing such a great job,.....I don't like to think about it.

I am just going to enjoy what is going on now because this 12-1 start does not happen very ofter--ah, NEVER as a matter of fact!
