Wade Phillips is an awfully busy man, now that he's added the title of defensive coordinator. He figures he'll have more time for football and less time for the media, but he's considering other ways to get updates to loyal Cowboys fans.
Phillips said he's considering starting a Twitter account. I think he was kidding, but it's hard to tell with his wry sense of humor.
The subject came up because of T.O.'s recent tweets assigning blame for his Valley Ranch departure. However, Phillips doesn't follow @terrellowens81 and isn't concerned about any tweets coming from upstate New York.
There's already one Twitter account that's supposedly Phillips', but it's safe to say that it's another impostor. Phillips would never use such salty language in public.

Cowboys have a ton of confidence in Anthony Spencer

If you scan his stats and see only 4.5 career sacks, you would think that 2007 first-round pick Anthony Spencer has had a disappointment start to his career. That's not the case, according to his head coach/defensive coordinator.
"Anthony Spencer can play," Wade Phillips said. "All you have to do is watch the tape. When we go through film after the season, go through the tape after the season, we go through every play and most of our highlight stuff from that position was him. In some cases, you'd say, 'Hey, that's DeMarcus. No, it's not, that's Anthony.' I think he's going to be a really good player for us."
The Cowboys made the decision in the middle of last season to give Spencer the majority of the playing time at the OLB spot opposite DeMarcus Ware. Greg Ellis continued to start, but Phillips admitted that was only to soothe the veteran's feelings.
Spencer has established himself as a force against the run. Phillips raved about Spencer's ability to beat run-blocking tight ends, saying Spencer was one of the best OLBs he's coached in that regard.
With Ellis' pending departure, the Cowboys will also count on Spencer to produce in passing situations, although the hope is that fourth-round picks Victor Butler and/or Brandon Williams are also ready to contribute as pass rushers. But Spencer will get plenty of opportunities to get to the quarterback. With opponents' blocking schemes focused on Ware, it'd be disappointing if Spencer doesn't double his previous career sacks total.
"So disrespectful, right?" Spencer joked about foes focusing on Ware, which will give him a lot of one-on-one opportunities. "I'm going to take advantage of my opportunities, definitely."
