Wade Phillips Should Stay as Coach if...

He wouldn't have to fire Wade, his contract expires at years end.

It's just an opinion of mine,it doesn't mean it's correct.

Wasn't there another coach around these parts that left after a Super Bowl?

My reasoning for Wade leaving regardless of the outcome is that Jerry has already made up his mind about Wade.

Craig

Sure the contract has expired but he has also talked about the prospect of Wade getting an extention after the season depending on the outcome. I don't see Jerry not bringing him back should Wade do what no coach has done since 1998. Jerry talked about how he felt he made a mistake with Gailey being too quick to get rid of him. When a club has not been having real success then they do why would you fire the HC?

Like most I think Wade has to make post season and do something once he gets there if not then yes I think Jerry moves on

He was handed a 9-7 who went 1-4 in december and lost to a beat up Seattle team on the road in the WC game.

Yeah, and then he turned a 13-3 team into a 9-7 team that had some of the worst defeats in December in recent memory the following season :laugh2: .

People can can make all the excuses for Wade Phillips all they want but he was handed an extremely good team.

Not the crappy team Bill Parcells was handed in 2003.

A lot of people expected very good things from the team the following Season based on how Tony Romo played in 2006.

Even the hated and biased media (as some people claim) seem to always be baffled as to why a team with a strong roster like the Cowboys never win anything.

I believe he's just trying to say the right thing to the media about Wade's current situation.I think he has lost faith in Wade to get the job done privately.JMO

Gailey was canned after his second season.I think part of the reason Wade was given year 3 is because Jerry later regretted pulling the plug on Gailey after 2 years.

Besides that,if this team is going to have any success in the post season the offense is going to have to step up.If the offense steps up and they find success that is all the more reason for Jerry to give Garrett the reigns. They say defense wins championships, but I don't see this defense as good enough to limit New Orleans or Minnesota in a playoff game. The offense is going to have to wake up for this team to make any noise in the playoffs.JMO

I'm not making any excuses for Wade I have said over and over his remaining with this team only happens if he can get this team over the hump something no one has been able to accomplish since 1998

As for BP I give him a lot of credit but I also recall alot of whinning and moaning about bring in over the hill players on their last leg and how stubborn he was about not playing young guys or keeping Zimmer which started the whole GROZ movement around here.

BP did not have 1 winning december when he was here and has not won in post season without Belicheck, hell if we are going to use Wade past against him why not be fair about it and put up BP past that was talked about when he was here?

Personally I liked both men and supported both men and have taken a lot of heat in both cases by members of this board for that support.

I believe in giving HC a fair shake and that is not going to change, Wade has been here almost 3 full season he has seen 13-3, 9-7 and currently 8-5 his job is on the line and I'll back him to the end and hope he gets it done.

I think he should remain the head coach if a rule where a hot dog eating contest between head coaches at mid-field is worth a couple of touchdowns.

Dallas would probably still drop two to Philly every year, but that is about the only useful scenario I can see for Wade as a head coach.

Not so fast. Mark Mangino is available.

For this team to make it all phases have to step up and if they do and this team advances in the post season I don't see jerry not bringing Wade back and pretty much starting over. If Wade fails and this team does not make post season or goes 1 and out then yes I think Jerry would be willing to take the chance of starting over again.

If the Cowboys make the playoff's and win 1 game. I m rooting for the guy because I think he's a good coach, , i feel the players like him, and he's just an overall good guy.. Come on Wade dial something up on defense against these saints!!

We are (have) rooted for the guy. Some more than others. Some were opposed to his being HC but hoped he'd win.

But Wade just flat out does not "have it", that quality of leadership and holding players to accountability.

One playoff victory will not do it.

No way does one playoff victory do it.

Fans are on the edge of revolt if this cupcake/marshmallow returns.

I disagree.

With the team he was handed, 1 Playoff win in 3 Seasons just isn't good enough.

maybe the players just aren't good enough.

Wade Phillips should not be coach even if he wins the Super Bowl and he turns water into wine at half time.

LOL. So if he won the Super Bowl, you'd still want him fired? Why?

I'm having hard time coming to grip with that as well. I thought that was the ultimate goal? Why would that not save any coaches job?

Please dude! :lmao2:

If we win the Super Bowl. That's the only way. And at this point I'm not even sure we make the playoffs.

While he is at it maybe he can heal the lepers......I mean our secondary coverage on 3rd down.

I disagree.

I think if Wade Phillips gets us to the Divisional Game and we play strong, he could keep his job.

If he gets us to the NFC Championship Game, coupled with his Regular Season Record, I that is enough for him to keep his job.

Because at this point, we have enough history to know that if this team wins the Super Bowl this year, it will be in spite of this coaching staff.

The year ending debacles year after year is the fault of the coaching staff for the pathetic way they have prepared this team. We have all kinds of talent, proven by the way we can move the ball between the 20s. But when it comes to crunch time, we go soft. Same with the defense. They play great fr the most part, but stumble in the fourth qtr. That is on the coach for not getting them prepared mentally for that.

So, if winning a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal, and it is, I want us to win it obviously. But no matter, I want another coach who can build this team into a perennial power house and be able to go for the long haul and not a one year wonder.
