He didn't want to come out and say it, but that's what it sounded like to me. He pointed out that most coaches do rest their players in a situation like this at least to some degree. He also pointed out that we played well early in the season, and after our bye week, so he's not afraid of layoffs.

I wish that once that became clear, the media would've asked about some young players who might get some PT this week, but they didn't.

Also moderately interesting, at least IMO, was that Spears would be the backup NT to Tank if Ratliff doesn't play. I really would've thought it might be Bowen.

Anyway... Maybe more players will rest more this week than some of us thought.

I'm sure Wade does not want to open everything up to the media.

No, at one point when he was dodging some questions, he hummed a little tune and said he wasn't a very good tap dancer. :laugh2:

Spears as the backup NT for a game is kind of interesting. When I watch him stop the run, and I see how big his frame is, I can imagine him playing that spot very well.

As a side note, it's really unfortunate to me that so many people rip him. He's another guy who is much better than people realize, in my opinion.

Spears has definitely upped his game this season. He's definitely playing better.

That said, IMO, he ranks behind Ratliff and Canty, but both of those guys are playing very, very well.

I actually think Spears should be the backup NT next year to Fergi. I think Ratlif should start at DE and Tank should be the swing guy (NT and DE). Spears has the 2nd largest lower body of the DL. He is so much bigger than Tank in the lower body.

I think Spears may be a NT next year anyway.

I think Ratliff is going to be our starter at DE and Tank/Spears can battle it out at NT.

Then again, Fergy could come back from his injury and that just adds another body to the mix.

It's such a great position to be in to have too many good DLinemen!

There are parallels to the depth we had in the early 90's. You want to see crazy depth look at the 1993 Dallas Cowboy defensive line.

True that was insane. The reason we had the #1 ranked defense that year IIRC

A young Maryland, Tolbert and Casillas, Jeffcoat, newly acquired Haley, Jimmie Jones... am I forgetting anyone?
