Wade will be good for Spears

Phillips hiring and his change to a more aggressive 1-gap scheme will benefit some players, certainly Ware as others have pointed out.

I think his hiring will also benefit Spears, who's pro career has been rather enigmatic to this point. Spears is a big guy, 300 lbs., but I don't think his strength is duking it out with the tackle. He has good quickness and explosion for a man his size, and that can used more effectively in the new D IMO.

A lot of people have criticized the Spears pick. I thought it was a good pick and that Spears was a good player in college. A good guy although known to take some plays off. I'm looking forward to what Spears can do next year.

I hope your right Spears is a guy in need of change and hopefully under Phillips he will reach the expectations many of us had for him. Another guy who I think may have a break out year is Hatcher, I think he has some natural pass rushing skills and with a year under his belt he should be a lot more comfortable at this level.

I agree about Hatcher. He could be very good. We have the potential to have a lot of depth on the d-line. We could have a rotation like:

Spears Coleman

Ferguson Ratliff

Canty Hatcher

I thought Coleman was outplaying Spears down the stretch. He's a good player although doesn't have the athletic talent Spears does. I could see Hatcher starting next year. Although if the rotation works out well, it may not matter who starts.

I agree, he was one who felt he couldn't take advantage of his strengths in the Parcells 3-4 scheme.

He has great athletic ability for his size and I think he will benefit greatly from a slanting scheme.

Since he can't get to the QB put him at full back in goal line situations. Wait, that didn't work either.

Based on what I heard yesterday on Sirius 124,no one is happier than Spears to see Duane gone.
Spears brought up the fact that Duane called both him and Canty out and that the scheme didn't allow him to attack.
I also heard that Ware was practically bouncing off walls in Hawaii after the announcement.

Be gone and stay gone,Duane.

I've always been a Spears fan too. I thought he was a great pick, and I have always expected big things from him. It was pretty obvious that he was struggling more with Bill's scheme than almost anyone else, but I believe that a more attack oriented style, where he can shoot gaps and try to get the QB will make him a different player.

what the hell was Parcells' problem

I mean seriously... what kind of a D was that... and WHY...

It's pretty simple. Parcells wants to win purely by execution. Go out there man on man and beat your guy.

I still think he was an excellent pick. The problem is the way we use him. Canty as well. The interview he had last week confirmed what I thought all along. I can promise you he is thrilled BP is gone.
