Wade's Challenge

Anyone catch the end of Wade's press conference today where he stated that he got word from the booth that Romo had fumbled the football but he decided to challenge the play anyway because you have to do that sometimes because it might not be clear and they had the timeouts to spare?

Are you kidding me that was ridicilous logic in my opinion for a few reasons. One, they missed a 50 yard FG before half time partly because they ran out of time, that extra timeout might of been nice. Two, he had to use his last challenge a few minutes later leaving them with none in the 2nd half of a pretty tight game.

Am I the only who has a problem with his logic here?

In a tight game, that challenge, if it reversed the call on the field would have changed hte dynamic of the game. Can't say I nessecarily disagreed AT THE TIME. Hearing that Wade knew they wouldn't win it changes it too.

Just seems a bit early in the game to me to be throwing away timeouts and challenges when the people you rely on and trust in the booth are telling you that you are not going to win the challenge. Seems a bit careless to me.

Very careless....I like Wade but he should be called out for it by the media.

The refs made a dumb call that cost us the 2nd challenge a few plays later. Usually there aren't many changeableness calls per game. Also, timeouts don't matter in the first half.

Either way, he admitted his mistake and hopefully, next time, he will be more prudent with his challenges. Its not like it was a 4th down in the redzone and he decides to go for the field goal instead of try the touchdown or something.

You had to bring that up, didn't you? I had almost forgotten.

what logic :)

i didn't listen to the PC, but assuming it's true that is atrocious. it's also not surprising. his time/clock managment and has been terrible, and he's been bailed out by Romo. in one of the recent close games on offense he let 10 seconds burn before calling a TO with little time left. ugh.

he seems to be in the joe torre school of coaching... nice guy, father figure, ability to get egos to get along, but clueless gametime management.

i dont think i'll get past FG (& 3rd down fade) he wins a superbowl here. just such a dumb, unforgivable consecutive calls.

Seems to be a pattern, I hope he can make the right decisions when the pressure is on during the post season.

Wade was foolish for throwing the challenge flag. Romo clearly fumbled the ball. You just have to suck it up and give the vikings credit for making a good play. I think these coaches just throw the flag to stop the momentum or just to get a roar from the crowd. I'm glad it didn't come back to haunt us.

I thought they changed the rules such that, if the challenge was upheld and the original call on the field overturned, you didn't lose a timeout and, in fact, got an extra (3rd) challenge to use later.

If his challenge is sucessful, he loses nothing.

You have to get both of your first 2 challenges correct to get a third one.

Gotcha. then, yeah, I'd have to agree that it's a questionable decision, at best.

Must admit I'm not exactly sure about Phillips. I think he's a really good DC & the team seems so far to be responding to his treating them like adults and getting enjoyment out of playing for him. But some of his decisions are weird. I'm sure glad Garrett has almost total charge of our offense and that Romo can continue to bail out everybody.

I'm more upset that he admitted this to the press, than that he actually did it.

:hammer:

It was a moronic move by Wade.

If the booth tells you it's a fumble, it's a fumble. Those guys usually tell the coach to challenge plays that shouldn't be challenged, so if they so "Don't Challenge" then it must be obvious it was a fumble.

So you want him fired?

I was thinking the same thing, not only did he admit it but he just threw it out there without being a question about it.

I don't think it was such a bad move. How many times have you seen the announcers blather on and on during a replay and say there's no doubt which way the referees will rule, only to have them rule the opposite? If it's close and it will add points for you or subtract points from the opponent, sometimes it's worth it to see if you can get a call. Maybe the refs will see something the coaches in the booth missed or see a different angle that shows something different. Or maybe they'll just make a bad call -- that NEVER happens, right?

It's not like he challenged an incomplete short pass on second-and-3 from our 40. It was a turnover in the red zone with the score tied.
