Its actually brilliant. Its the perfect defense for today's pass happy league as you can use it in damn near any game that comes up. It keeps everything in front of the Safeties and applies almost nearly as well to the Vikings as the Eagles. Only exception is a slight change to look for the run before pressuring.

But what exactly do you call what our db's, safeties and LB's are doing?

I hate the new overused and en vogue term scheme, but what scheme do we employ?

Its not really cover 2 as we really don't pass off as much as loose man in defined areas of the field.

The scheme is a small part of it.

It's the execution by the players...

You have a few guys playing, well, "lights-out" at the moment:

Ware
Spencer
Ratliff
Jenkins

Then you mix in the guys that are playing at a good level like:
Newman
James
Brookings
The safeties

The scheme will only be as good as the guys executing it.

That's how I described Wade in the Wade Phillips Bandwagon thread. As opposed to Parcells, Wade Phillips is willing to evolve or adapt to the game, whereas Parcells was stuck in his stubborn ways.

I heart Wade Phillips.

Hell, even Carpenter is playing better in this latest D. Haven't seen him chasing TE's in a few weeks. lol

Put the Card's defensive players or the Packer's defensive players in Wade's scheme and see if they put up the same numbers as their Cowboy counterparts– I'm guessing they wouldn't. :)

i wouldn't mind dusting of some 46 formations for this week.

Ask the Giants how much a good defensive coach matters.

No question.

So does losing a HOF in Strahan last season, then you have what seemed to be the entire secondary get injured this season.

Then they had the brilliant thought of overpaying for an average defensive lineman like Canty.

It wasn't just the coaching.

What in the world for when you have a plan that works against both pass and the run?
