Wade's style; Just inevitable for a down year?

I was very impressed with how Wade handled the team last season, but here we are in 2010 and I can't even turn on my radio without hearing people bag on the Cowboys. My concern is this: Is it just inevitable that we have down periods under Wade Phillips? His coaching style has always been that the players should motivate themselves, but it seems that the team tends to ride the "hype wave". They get looser as the praise gets higher, but many times they are able to shake it off and play hard when their backs are against the wall.

2007 - Played hard with new "players" coach, but ultimately fell short in the playoffs.
2008 - Fell apart after the preseason Superbowl talk and Hard Knocks.
2009 - Played hard after some shaky periods and erased the Philly debacle from 08, but got pummeled the next week by the Vikings.
2010 - 0-2, Down season????

Yes, I know, it is a very big picture analysis, but going game by game would take too long. It would not shock me in the slightest if the Cowboys come out and beat the Texans thoroughly because they are getting pummeled by the critics. But, how many times can the team answer the bell like that and will this wave continue as long as Wade is coach?

Every NFL coach and team has down years. Andy Reid went 6-10 just a few years ago. Tom Coughlin went 8-8 last year, as did Jeff Fisher. Cowher and Parcells had 6-10 seasons.

About the only one I can think of who hasn't lately is Belichick.

Its possible, maybe thats the reason that Wade has never been a HC anywhere longer than just a couple of seasons???

Besides, if we lose the season is done anyways. 0-3 teams have less than a 3% chance of making the playoffs based off historical data.

I don't know how the season will turn out I do know to make an intelligent judgment on any coach or team you do so by how their season went not what they did in 2 games out of 16.

this is par for the course for WP the headcoach

if we win this year, and I hope we do, it will be

beacuse of WP the DC

but

inspite of WP the HC

Great way to cover your bases. If we lose it will be because Wade is a bad HC but if we win he gets no credit as the HC. :laugh2:

This truely is laughable by those whose personal views would take away any positive and freely lay blame.

If Wade does a poor job he should be fired as the HC but if he can get this team turned around and win he should be given the same credit any HC would get.

shrugs

i could make similar asinine comments about your homer posts but i will refrain from such pettiness

this post does not represent a 'covering my bases' rather the frustration that i feel for a potential opportunity that could be slipping through our fingers

you are entitled to your opinion as i am to mine

free country and all you know?

Homer post? I think if Wade does not do the job then he should be fired so what is so homer about that? I also think if he can get them turned around he deserves credit like any other coach would get credit.

You are entitled to cheesy opinions that would lay blame and yet make excuses for not giving credit.

I just don't think Wade's the main guy to blame. Dungy had great teams and a superbowl team coaching in a similar way. You don't have to scream at people all day to get them to play ball.

If it would bring SB titles to Dallas I'm sure the majority would take it. Hell Jimmy Johnson sent guys up to check out the garbage cans after games to get information the other team may have left behind.

That's true, but Dungy had the best QB in the game as well, that lead practices. He also was very keen to attention to detail and being disciplined. Wade wants the team to do that on there own, because they are "grown men".

This is the NFL and these are pro athletes. They are all grown men, etc., etc. But men need leadership, and refinement. Otherwise what would be the use of coaches?

If WP is the same person than that statement makes no sense. That's a confusing statement right there. If WP is the problem the Cowboys won't win. DC or HC.
