We've got to be waiting to see if Seymour gets that Franchise Tag. He is a huge upgrade over Spears, and they haven't even spoken to the mans agent.

Too bad Al Davis is going to %$#$ on this.

Sorry, there is just no way Oakland just lets him hit the market.

They gave up a first rounder to use him for one year? I just don't see anyone being that dumb.

That being said, if he were to hit the market, I would throw alot of money at him.

Who is "we"??? No one in the league expects Al to let Seymour walk, not after what they gave up in trade.

Oakland invested a 2011 first-round pick to get defensive end Richard Seymour from New England, and it seems determined not to lose him.

Seymour
The Raiders will use their franchise tag on Seymour if the two sides cannot agree on a long-term contract extension, according to a source close to the situation.

The move would be neither surprising nor cheap. The franchise tag for defensive ends is $12.398 million. The deadline for teams to use their franchise tags on prospective free agents is next Thursday.

Oakland is in a similar situation to its Bay Area neighbor, the San Francisco 49ers. If the 49ers cannot get a long-term extension done with their free-agent defensive tackle, Aubrayo Franklin, then San Francisco will use its franchise tag on him.

The franchise tag for defensive tackles is $7 million.

How does a professional sports organization get itself in that position with Richard Seymour, anyway? Honestly.

It's simple. You are a team that trades for a prime player, on the final year of his contract. You are also a team that said player wouldn't consider playing for, ever. You're only plan is to franchise said player, year after year.

New England loaded up pretty well on draft picks. Given that they are in a mini rebuilding mode, I think they made a few pretry nice trades last year. They need to get younger.

They'll go through a complete collapse after they lose Randy Moss in 2011.

Report: Raiders place franchise tag on Seymour
Posted: February 24th, 2010 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Oakland Raiders, Richard Seymour

The Oakland Raiders have placed the franchise tag on defensive end Richard Seymour, the Boston Herald reports, meaning Seymour will be retained at a cost of $12.398 million for 2010 if the two sides can’t agree on a long-term deal.

The Raiders and Seymour have been involved in ongoing talks for a while, in hopes of figuring out a deal for the five-time Pro Bowler who just completed his ninth season.

One would figure the Raiders want to lock up Seymour long term, considering the price they paid to acquire him. One week before the season began, Oakland traded its 2011 first-round draft choice to New England in order to obtain Seymour, 30, who was in the final year of his contract.

And thus, a bad thread dies a slow and tragic death.

Owner/ GM went senile years ago. You know Al is the kind of creepy old guy that sits in a dark room alone every night, watching 30 and 40 year old film when the team was relevent. Kind of like an old movie star watching silent pictures they were in.

First of all it would never happen! Second,he is a great player! But not that much of an upgrade over Spears to merit the contract he would demand.

By the way I really like this forum! Hope to have great discussions with everyone about the ONLY real NFL team!
