If you claim a guy off waiver wire he has to go to the 53. With all the roster wrangling the Jones Boys are doing, that would be too complicated.

Rarely do teams claim waived players because they are required to put them in their 53 man roster.

And putting them on the 53 guarantees their salaries for the full season.

Dallas and others chose a different route. They protected players by only releasing those that wouldn't be picked up; hence why Dallas has no kicker, no long snapper, no backup QB, and 8 receivers.

It's a strategy. The Cowboys are holding on to players at positions of strength to see if they can trade them. We'll see if it works out.

With an extra week, there's time to play some poker.

The Jets just cut to their final 53 by position and were done.

This is the first year. The extra week is the reason.

Malik Davis is a player. So is Brandon Smith.

Dallas still has a better roster than the Jets by a good margin.

According to SJ, they made no claims from the waiver wire. Since then, of course, that has changed.
