How do they compare? Do you think Walden can be as good as Coakley was? Both smallish LBs from small schools. I never saw either Walden or Coakley play in college.

Apples and Oranges I think. Walden is going to be a hybrid rush backer, which is nothing like we used Coakley. Hopefully he'll have as much heart as old Diet Coakley did.

I agree.

Walden isn't that undersized... He's listed on the DC.com site at 6-2 and 246. And he's not as good a prospect as Coakley was -- you can tell that by his draft position. But I love his profile. He was very productive as a passrusher and set a school record for sacks. He made a lot of stops behind the line. He plays fast and aggressive. Wade mentioned several times that he's physical and a big hitter. And maybe most of all, he's a hard worker and a guy that was productive even gutting out a very painful injury. Everyone seems to think this team could use more heart... Maybe guys like this can help that.

Of course, he's a sixth round pick and he might not even make the team. But I like the reasoning we used in drafting him. And I do think Wade knows what a good upfield linebacker looks like.

Those guys are two completely different beasts. Coakley was a small, quick 4-3 OLB, while Walden is a much, much bigger player and is a 3-4 OLB/ILB.

No comparison.

I really like Walden a lot and I think that if he hadn't been hurt all year long his senior season, he probably would have been drafted a lot higher. He has all the character and work ethic that you could want and is pretty athletic.

IMO we drafted him off of his junior season film and from talking to his coaches, who loved him on their team.

I have high hopes for him at OLB or ILB... whichever Phillips wants him at.

I still think he ends up at ILB long term.

I'm not sure what they're going to do with Walden either. It looked like he had a nose for the QB as a Jr with 11 sacks. Not as much productivity as a Sr but he was apparently playing with turf toe all year.
