"Those Dallas Cowboys must be real proud," Mike Klis wrote in the Denver Post earlier this week. "Here it is mid-August, preseason game No. 2, yet the Cowboys played as if it's never too early to embarrass an injury-riddled opponent in a game that doesn't count. The Cowboys had their way here Saturday night at muggy Texas Stadium, whipping the Broncos, their weeklong practice buddies, 31-20. Although an honest beating explained much of the outcome, the Broncos wondered if Cowboys coach Wade Phillips got a little carried away with trying to send some sort of preseason statement."

Hogwash, Gregg Doyel writes on CBSSports.com. Reacting in particular to criticism from John Lynch about the Cowboys' aggressive approach, Mr. Doyel attempts to reconstruct what this code of ethics might be: "Can a defender like Lynch, who has been fined multiple times for illegal hits, hit a receiver hard in the preseason? Can a wide receiver block vigorously downfield in the preseason? Can a quarterback put extra zip on a pass? Can a linebacker try to strip the ball? Is it still OK for teams to be happy if they win?"

Mr. Doyel has had enough with sports' codes, which seem to all include this feature: The code enforcer just lost the game.

Not to split hairs, but that really isn't the Wall Street Journal's take on preseason "code of ethics", they just reported what two other media sources said on the subject.

For the record, I could care less, if a team escapes without a major injury, they shouldn't worry about it, nobody will remember a preseason game come October...

1st teamers didn't blitz as much as I thought they did, so Lynch should go watch the video again, and apologize. We show blitz all the time, but usually only bring 4 or 5.

I'm aware of that, but this last line was actually the WSJ writer's take on the whole ordeal.

**shakes head** Firehawk getting abused again....... when will he learn....

But anyway.... the preseason is about seeing who should be on the roster and who should go, if I was another Coach/team I'd want my opponant to try and win the game in preseason. If they were up by 50 points I'd want them to still try and score on my players so I can see what they're made of and what they can do. Now if they were to keep their starters in for an extended amount of time abusing my 3rd stringers or something.... then maybe I'd be a little aggravated, but then again, my 3rd stringers would have gotten some work in on a starting unit.... I really expected more out of Lynch, he just comes off as a whiner in all of this.
