An unidentified 34-year-old employee was killed when customers flooded through the doors of the Black Friday opening of a Walmart in Long Island. The man was knocked over and trampled as shoppers literally walked over him to access the store faster.

While only one fatality was recorded, a pregnant women had to be hospitalized after being knocked to the floor and three other persons suffered minor injuries. Shoppers were still coming in as emergency workers were trying to save the man's life.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

This is sad!!

My dad just called me from New York, and told me about this. I used to shop at this exact Wal-Mart when I live in Long Island.

I will never shop on Black Friday. I think it's a lot of humanity at it's worst, as this story shows. Very sad. I hope they find a way to charge these people with a crime.

I hope they have video of this and every person who stomped that guy or who ran past him is identified and has the hell beaten out of them.

I hate this kind of display of ignorance. People like this have no place in society with normal human beings. They should be caged up.

Yet another reason to do your shopping online. I don't mean to excuse the animals who did this, but why wasn't the store better prepared for something like this?

A guy with a gun out front might have been in order.

I hope that $5 DVD was worth it.

right on.

That is why thanksgiving is the best holiday. No gifts, especially no unessecary gifts just to feed the perception.

I love christmas, but I hate greed and these types of stories.

I heard the Walmart here had a fight breakout this morning between two women who reached for the same item. Swinging, hairpulling, the whole bit.

I also heard that they had less than half their checkout stations open and people were pissed.

It sounds like some of these stores (particularly Walmart) need to get better organized. More security, more employees, something. Maybe even some sort of lottery system to avoid the stampedes.

The Long Island story is sad, disgusting and pathetic.

Yet another reason why I love shopping online.

that seems like the solution to all of lifes problem.

You don't think a couple of rounds fired in the air would have calmed them down?

I know, you're one of those....

Wrong forum for this discussion though.
