Don Perkins, as a stand up man, retired because he felt Walt Garrison was ready to assume the fullback role in the Dallas offense. Tom Landry stated that his last two seasons were the greatest of Perkins' career. But Walt Garrison proved his metal and even expanded the role at fullback in the receiving skillset.
