No, please no....

1ST
Dallas Cowboys: Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama
Jay Ratliff is a terrific player, but he's not a true nose tackle. Dallas' defense could improve immensely if Jerry Jones drafts Terrence Cody and moves Ratliff out to a 3-4 end position. Jerry loves flashy things, so he'll undoubtedly be enamored with a big name like Cody.

Pick change; previously Taylor Mays, S

2ND
Dallas Cowboys: Marshawn Gilyard, WR/KR, Cincinnati
This is a reach, but it also seems like a classic Jerry Jones pick. Marshawn Gilyard is a big name and a flashy player. Jones may see Gilyard as an upgrade over Patrick Crayton in the slot and as a return specialist.

3RD:
Dallas Cowboys: Micah Johnson, ILB, Kentucky
Keith Brooking has been amazing for the Cowboys this year, and in my opinion, he's the reason they're getting over their annual December swoon. He's the leader they've needed in that locker room for years.

Unfortunately, Brooking will be 35 in the middle of the 2010 season. Dallas will need a successor in the middle of its defense.

Huge Problem I have:
All pro DT Jay Ratliff should be replaced @ DT? No.

Cowboy fans are in 2 camps when it comes to Jay Ratliff.

Camp 1 - He is a Pro Bowl NT, why would you move him?

Camp 2 - He is an amazing NT but too small against the run. He would be an even bigger superstar at DE.

I tend to be in Camp 2 but only because I think Ratliff would benefit from lining up all over the defensive line. Drafting a big NT like Cody preserves Ratliff IMO so I'd be okay with that pick. Cody is a first and second down player only but a very effective one.

As far as this mock, whoever Walter is, I've noticed two things. He is a bit lazy (Michah Johnson has been our 3rd round pick despite several "updates") and he bashes the Cowboys a lot.

If Taylor Mays were to slip into the mid-2nd as he does in this latest mock, I would making all kinds of deals with the Draft Gods for Dallas to move up and get him, even though I know the majority here would lose it if we did.

While I think it is possible that he add 15-20 lbs and play LB he keeps insisting he can maintain his playing weight and will play safety. I think he can be very similar to Arizona Strong Safety Adrian Wilson.

The Combine will tell us a lot about Mays, if he's really as fast as advertised.
He needs a real secondary coach at the next level but I think he can be a very effective defender.

I'm also in Camp 2. Rat would dominate one on one against OG's. Cody would take up two blockers. I wouldn't be mad if we did this. Cody is a beast.

I don't like the idea of Taylor on this team. You need a ballhawking cover FS like Ed Reed to have a SS like Mays and there isn't one on the Cowboys.

How can you improve at all on DT? You've got to be kidding. HE IS ON THE ALL-PRO TEAM as the #1 DT.

I think Rat could be just as good at DE as he is at NT.

I think he could be a better pass rusher in nickel DT if he takes on fewer double teams at DE on 1st and 2nd down.

If you put him at DE next to Ware how do you block that?

If you put him at DE next to Spencer with the protection slid to Ware's side how do you block Rat and Spencer?

An injury at NT could blow up your whole season.

My take on depth..........

1-22 can make you a very good team.

23-53 is what makes dynasties.

Our DL during our 90's run didn't have any Siavii's or Bowen's.

Love Gilyard, but we don't need him.

Give me OL in 2-3.

If we pick a WR I will call it a wasted pick if the player turns out to be a hall of famer, why? Because we have Crayton, Hurd, Ogletree and MILES AUSTIN from the 7th and undrafted, thats where we should get the Receivers from, go to the well til its dried up.

we are in the position where we could draft BPA, Cody, and keep Rat at NT

we'd be unstoppable on D

not really. that's where this kid's hype comes from are his measurables. but when you watch him play the game he's an average safety at best.
