Walter Football Mock Draft

I would like to add Walter is one of the most respected draft guys on the net.

1st) Dallas Cowboys: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
The Cowboys have issues in their secondary; they surrendered an average of 319 passing yards in the past seven weeks prior to letting John Skelton win on a fourth-quarter drive. Even Rex Grossman torched them.

Mike Jenkins' effort is always a concern, while the rapidly declining Terence Newman will be 33 heading into the 2011 NFL season.

While Patrick Peterson is the best cornerback prospect to come along in a very long time, Prince Amukamara isn't too far behind him.

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. Marcell Dareus, DE/DT - The Cowboys need an upgrade over Igor Olshansky at right end.

2. Trade Down - Outside of Amukamara and Marcell Dareus, none of the top players available fit Dallas' needs (RB, CB, S, DE, OL). Moving down would make a lot of sense if they don't like either for some reason.

38) Dallas Cowboys: Kenny Tate, S, Maryland
New free safety Alan Ball has been a pretty big liability this season. The Cowboys need to upgrade this position unless they want DeSean Jackson torching them twice every year.

69) Dallas Cowboys: Chris Hairston, OT, Clemson
Marc Colombo is terrible. The Cowboys desperately need an upgrade at right tackle.

We just drastically improved our worst unit (secondary) and a replacement for Colombo. Though in the 3rd I'd want Lee Ziemba instead.

Couple Free agent replacements and we're set. One of the best Mocks I've seen this year.

Mr. Cherepinksy is a ravage sports fan in general. Very knowledgeable and very passionate about sports but he carry's no weight in the NFL Draft community and knowing him even he would tell you that he does not take himself that seriously.

His site is a Encyclopedia of draft information taken from around the net.

You sure your not trying to pump him up a little more then needed to justify the Tate pick?;)

Are you familiar with Walt?

Haha. Yeah his site is great. I think the guy who he has the site with, I think his name is Matt Mcguire is a little more well respected amongst the draft guys. But none-the-less Walt is a great guy. We always chat on facebook.

Haha, the Tate pick basically does it for me. But honestly, that would be a good draft.:p:

Their weekly picks are one of the best in the business. I dont know if Matt or Walt does them but I"m shocked they offer that service for free.

Your right though, Matt is more of the draft guru for that site. I met him a few times at the Senior Bowl.

They really are. And it's funny cause when he has a bad week some idiots start cussing at him on his facebook wall and send him emails. If he charged they would have a point. But what else do you want? The guys basically winning you money. Take it and shutup.

I would be very disappointed in this draft if we are drafting from #6 or better.

Bookmark this if u want, but after the draft (if Tate even comes out) we'll see that picking him 38th would be a huge reach. And he's just not a FS.

I think this is the perfect draft to trade down, probably not in the first round by in the later rounds.

This particular draft by Walter is okay in my book, I'm not as high on Prince as some are but we could work some real magic with picks in the 2nd or 3rd. NE is going to absolutely clean up this draft.

I'm still dreaming of Nick Fairley in the first though.

Yes, he is.

And we will see.

we likely won't. If he's a successful SS, you'll probably just say he'd be better as a FS. It's funny that in the other thread you agreed with Chris in Arizona's assesment, yet what he describes is a SS

"I love the way Maryland uses him. They mix it up and let him play near the line of scrimmage. He blitzed and faked the blitz all throughout the game."

"This is where you should play these big 6'4" safeties. They are so athletic (for their size) that college coaches put them at Free Safety to make sure there are no homerun plays. Nice precaution but doesn't prepare these kids for their true NFL position."

Sounds like someone who isn't a FS

IMO trade down in the first - if we can't get Petersen or Fairley

get Sherrod

Doug Free played well at ROT last year in Columbo's absence and with the top LOT still on the board, why not have the flexibility of 2 athletic young bookends that are interchangeable? Sure makes game-day decisions of whittling down 53 to 45 easier, in the case of deciding on back-up OL in the case of injuries. This is a case where value equals need and is a fine pick by Dallas

get a couple extra picks

I'm not high on Tate at all.

3rd or 4th round at best.

I'd be livid if we took him in two.

He isn't a FS.

I'm not a huge Prince fan either.

If PP is a top 5 CB (which he is), Prince isn't in the same universe.

Prince should be 10-15 or 15-20 based on talent.

He could go 5-10 based on need.

Well whats more important to me about this mock is where PP goes and what he says about him.....cause it makes sense. If the Broncos are losing Champ, they need a CB far more than a DL and who else would be a better choice than PP. At that point, we couldn't get ahead of them to pick PP, and Prince isn't a replacement for PP.

If we do get a top 6-8 pick, is that really a position to spend on a DL for a 3-4.....I don't think so. If you think he will trade down and pick a OL in the first.....well you haven't been paying attention over the last 20 years or so.

What we will do, noone knows. Who knows what Prince will test out like, we are so far away from the draft. But this is a draft where it sounds like we will have to trade up or down to get what we want unless someone falls.

SDogo is right. They are kind of like the wikipedia of draft sites. Good site though. Walter takes a lot of "shots" at the Cowboys but I've talked to him a few times and he's just a guy having some fun.

As far as Tate, someone might try to use him at Free Safety but I think he'd be much better at Strong Safety. His athleticism would give him an advantage in covering Tight Ends and he's big enough to handle them from a physical standpoint.

IMO a Free Safety should have the ability to cover like a corner if needed. He should have enough speed to not lose a foot race to a sprinting receiver who he had a 12-yard cushion on. The exceptions are veteran guys like Rod Woodson, Darren Woodson, and Darren Sharper who are students of the games, are experts at reading QB's, and at being in position.

Me personally i like Rahim Moore alot more than Kenny Tate. Just looks the part as a NFL safety.
