2023 NFL Draft Potential Busts: Defense

https://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/college/Georgia_logo.gif Nolan Smith, OLB, Georgia
Smith looks like a dangerous pick, in my opinion. At Georgia, he never put up a season of good production, averaging roughly three sacks annually over his career, despite a scheme that sets up outside rushers. Smith has great speed, but at 6-foot-2, 238 pounds, he is extremely undersized for the NFL. He lacks the length and weight to shed blocks, and his speed alone will not be enough to consistently beat pro offensive tackles. Smith's body type and lack of production look like warning signs for bust potential.
What is Charlie talking about? 6'2" 238lbs is undersized for a modern NFL Lber? No he missed the last 10 years or so when Lbers got smaller and smaller to get faster and better in pass coverages.

Look at the other players that are going to be drafted this year as Lbers.
The ones in the 250s,260s. The few in 270s and Keion White at 280 are all pass rushers and edge maybe some are 3-4 OLB but most are 4-3 ends too.

Fuller was a more complete WR coming out. Fuller's knock was his hands more than anything.
Think they are very similar type players, I would throw also Desean Jackson as a comp. That's the type of receiver Hyatt will become. Not #1 receivers, but more of a #2 who can stretch the field.

Jackson was a more complete WR too.

Hyatt is easily the rawest of the three.

To me, none are considered 1st rd talents. If you are drafting a 1st rd receiver, the expectation should always be a future #1 WR. Don't see any in this class.

Ringo most likely imo.
Happens every year.

College football sports personalities create compelling expectations around players from every team, and those expectations carry them more than their actual play.

IMO, Ringo is the epitome of this.

Nolan Smith is very risky, I agree.

He's an easy to like kid with a lot of potential, but yeah, the production wasn't there.

I think he's also getting a little more of a stock bump because evaluators are looking for the next Parsons or Reddick.

Honestly Ive always thought of Walter and Charlie Campbell as guys living in their moms basement, trolling online games and scouting football players while sucking down hot pockets
:lmao:

Do you remember Joel Buschbaum and his work for Pro Football Weekly?

Hyatt is not that raw.

He well developed on the types of routes that he ran. He just didn't run the full route tree.

Why do you say that? Their site blows but they at least know what they're doing. Scouts sometimes utilize their info. Its a reputable source...
Their website is absolutely terrible…it’s inundated with ads and moves at a snails speed.
