The winningest coach in Arkansas State University football history paid a visit to Paragould Country Club on Tuesday to play in the 25th annual ASU Golf Classic. As ASU’s head football coach from 1979 to 1989, Larry Lacewell compiled a record of 69-58-4. Lacewell later became the director of scouting for the Dallas Cowboys before retiring in 2004. He said the Cowboys still send game films to him and he attends training camp as well as the NFL combine. He said his official title in the Cowboys organization is “consultant to the president.”
“That just means that [Cowboys owner] Jerry Jones listens to me a little bit more than he used to,” Lacewell said with a laugh. “I get a kick out of being here [in Northeast Arkansas] because everybody is interested in the Cowboys.”
