Heck, I don't know if we even have a Basic Training Daddy judging by our lack of consistent pressure from the edges.
Our best chances of pressure may come from the interior with Collins and Peau

great another our pass rush sucks threads...and who is Peau?

Think of this, if Collins and Peae can cause pressure up the middle as they are supposed to do. Then they get attention, then that opens it up for the DE's to get pressure and get sacks. They can't double team everyone. it will even open up the MLB or a S to blitz to get to the QB.

I disagree, I think this group is going to be pretty good. Losing irving and moore is a blow early on but I think this group is going to be pretty good.

I think they will be better than most believe. Daryl Johnston, and DeMarcus Ware think so too. they both said this the past few weeks. Moose, his concerns is the secondary and not having all the rookies out there getting playing time. That will be the big unknown.

As DWare said, with rod and Leon Left out there coaching them, they will have them ready to play come game 1. These guys see them throughout the practes and such, stuff we don't see but a few film clips with a reporters biased opinions at times. Then in a vanilla game, not game planned.
so I will take their word for it.

At a certain point in time, our front office must realize Rod cannot mold solid players out of nothing. There is no Simeon Rice, Booger McFarland or Warren Sapp.

Our arrow is trending way up, tons of solid rotational depth. But if we get during the season, what we saw last night? It's going to be a long season

Every year people say the same thing and every year it doesn't work out quite like you hope.

Unless a guy or two really develops as an outside edge guy, the fact Collins and Paea work well inside will simply result in what we've gotten to date............ mediocre results in getting after the QB.

We better hope that Moore somehow finds what made him highly thought of years ago and Charlton develops quickly into a good edge guy.

We have improved the Dl no question about it since last year as the Interior is much better. Once these suspensions are over we are going to be much better, no panic from me.

I was getting mad irritated by the broadcast team continually mispronouncing Paea's name. They kept calling him "PIE-yuh". His name is three syllables: pah-EH-ah.

Just kind of disrespectful. If they pronounced Dak's last name "PREE-skit" it would irritate me the same way.

Then again I should be used to it living here in Texas where they constantly (PROUDLY) mispronounce tons of stuff. Manor is MAY-nurr, Amarillo is am-uh-RILL-oh, and Houston is HUE-stun. Grrr

This!!
The announcers are all ex-DC and biased so they are not going to trounce on our team on the air. Our defense looked like the same inconsistent bunch we have seen over the last 3 years period. People can candy coat it anyway they like but we look good against poor QB's and average to below against the better QB's. It's going to be up to the offense to outscore and win games like years back.
The only good is that we're young in a lot of areas and have room for improvement. Also I was hoping that we were holding back last night on both sides of the ball because we play them later this year. But their probably doing the same thing so who knows until the games start to count.

We were a middle of the pack team last season as far as sacks go and I am hoping we have added enough pieces to marginally improve to a top 10 unit.

The Raiders may have a better offensive line than us. There is not a defensive line in the league that will generate consistent pressure while purposely playing vanilla.

What defenses are good against the better quarterbacks?

Tom Brady kills any defense.

What defense has the personnel to slow down Aaron Rodgers when he is hot?

Seattle?
Philly?
NYG?
Houston?

Rodgers threw 15 touchdowns and zero interceptions to close the season.

We need to score points. Spend 100 million on defense and still get sent home in the first round of the playoffs when Rodgers drops 38 points on you(NYG).

And every year it's people like yourself telling us not to get our hopes up. At this time last year, we were told we were doomed because we had no QB. Zach Martin was going to bust. Oh noes Dez is injured!

It was only 2012 we had the worst defense in the league. I don't recall a whole lot of people saying it was roses and caviar when we had Mincey and Selvie as returning starters. Following 2013 after a bottom third result and a DLaw broken foot, we were given no chance in 2014. Since then we have had rosier predictions but that is because we have been winning.

Frankly every year what we actually get are the 8-8, sky is falling routine. Meanwhile we have more talent now than we have had in the past.

Collins did work out. Paea certainly looks rejuvenated returning to a 4-3. DLaw is healthy and playing well. Moore and Irving are suspended, not dead, and playing well. Charlton is improving steadily and consistently making plays when given an opportunity. We'll see if 98 and 99 can get healthy but they are talented.

We finally have the number of players to run a rotation. Early in the year we have DLaw, Mayowa, Charlton, Neal, and 98 at the least to rotate. Return Tapper, Moore, and Irving and we are plenty deep. Keep in mind that it is not going to be like last year when injuries to multiple players reduced us to only being able to run a 3 man line.

We don't need a dominant edge player that can beat double teams ie a pro bowl type. We don't need Charlton or anyone else to develop into that. It would certainly help but what we really need are several men who can beat single blocking. With how well the DT are playing it's going to be hard for the guards to help. The DE are going to get isolations and they need to beat their man.

And its important to remember that 4 sacks and 2 QB hits in a game is outstanding. That is on pace for 64 sacks in a year. There are only about 35 passing snaps in a game in today's NFL. With 4 starting DL with 140 snaps between them that means a 90% fail rate is outstanding performance.
