Ware was definitely held 5 times, 2 were questionable, but were holds by the standards Bennett and Free were getting called. Two of the 7 were tackles. Here's a write-up with game-times for anyone who wants to look up the plays...

11:00 1st Quarter
#47 Held Ware. Questionable call, could go either way.

4:45 1st Quarter
#82 holds Hatcher on an end-around - Obvious

3:25 1st Quarter
Free called for a hold on Arakpo... BS call, IMO. Not as bad as the hold on Ware earlier. It cost us 25 yds, Ogletree then fumbles and we give up a FG.

2:00 1st Quarter
Washington just recovered the ball on the 10.
#83 holds Ware, obvious and blatant. Washington gets a FG.

6:30 2nd Quarter
#71 gets beat on a spin by Ware, turns and puts his arms around him. Blatant, obvious, complete BS non-call. After the incompletion watch the replay... it's infuriating. Ware gave the ref an earful.

2:23 2nd Quarter
#71 holds Ware again (while standing in front #71 has his hands grabbing jersey on Ware's nametag, literally wrapping his hand around him.)

2:00 2nd (after 2 minute warning)
Literally on the next play #71 grabs Ware exactly the same way and slings him to the ground. Pretty obvious hold there.

two plays later...

1:13 2nd Quarter
#71 has his right hand on Ware's back, again, with a hand full of jersey. Pretty sure that's considered holding.

0:53 2nd Quarter
#71 False Start, Ware points, no flag. (I slo-mo'd it, it was a FS.)

10:53 3rd Quarter
Free called for a hold. He held. About as obvious as the last three non-calls from #71.

7:01 3rd Quarter
#82 holds Ware so bad that when Ware falls down, he gets dragged down with him.

14:14 4th Quarter
Bennett Called for holding. Marginally more obvious than some of the holds put on Ware just because of a stretchy jersey, but Bennett didn't slow the guy at all.

4:02 4th Quarter
#71 holds Ware. Blatantly. Ware beats him on the edge, the guy turns and grabs Ware's ankles.

You don't even have the most blatant hold on your list. It was the 8th one. The one that happened on the Spencer sack 'n strip. I mean, if you are going to go to the trouble of listing the 7 blatant holds that weren't called, the tripping, the tackling and all, why leave the one play where Ware got blatantly held by TWO players instead of just one?

From my Week 3 post game report:

ANTHONY SPENCER SIGHTING!

And Ware Gets Blatantly Held For The 5th or 6th Time With No Flag

Play Breakdown: Dallas has kicked a FG to take a 18-16 lead over the Commanders. With :38 seconds left to play in the game, the Skins face a 2nd and 10 at their own 43.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h28m33s181.png

Rex Grossman is in the shotgun, and the ball has just been snapped. Anthony Spencer (#93) is lined up on the right side, with DeMarcus Ware (#94) opposite him on the left.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h28m47s87.png

Grossman doesn't drop back at all, he's apparently looking for a fast pass but doesn't see anyone open. Ware has one man in front of him, but now that the OG #78 sees that Victor Butler of the Cowboys (#57) isn't blitzing, he's about to slide over and help #71 deal with Ware. Meanwhile Skins lineman #77 is about to lock horns with Anthony Spencer on the other edge.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h28m57s160.png

So fast that he's become a blur, Ware spins in between the two Skins linemen and starts to burst through the gap. Meanwhile Spencer's man has decided to try to force him wide.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h29m05s6.png

Realizing they are beaten, the two Skins linemen reach up high and grab Ware around the throat. Both do this simultaneously and with the exact same hand placement. Hmmmmmmmmm. Makes you wonder if they practice this sort of thing. Grossman is still looking downfield.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h29m24s186.png

Despite the fact he's being held by two 300+ defenders, DeMarcus Ware doesn't give up. HE SURGES FORWARD, bringing BOTH defenders with him and reaches out an arm, trying to ensnare Grossman with it. Grossman sees Ware closing the distance and decides to relocate, shifting his feet and pulling back to roll out to the left. Unfortunatley for Grossman, Anthony Spencer has shaken his defender by running around him, and is looking right at Grossman as he begins building up speed for his charge.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h26m27s211.png

Here's why Grossman is a bad QB. As he feels and hears Spencer coming up behind him, he does exactly what you are not supposed to do: he turns his head to look. He doesn't cover up the ball or heave it over the sideline. He's still running with the ball held low and of course Spencer's hand comes down right on it and spikes it out.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h26m48s152.png

As Spencer completes the play by taking Grossman down, Sean Lee enters the picture to the far left. Look how far away from the ball he is. There's like, 4 guys on their feet closer to it than he is.

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h27m13s148.png

DeMarcus Ware had about a 4 step advantage in getting to this ball, but Lee beats him to it!

Most of the big plays the Commanders made, there was usually a hold. Great job breaking it down. Hopefully in the rematch game better refs will be put on the field and the game won’t be close.

How can that not be noticed

My guess is the refs figured "hey, we've been ignoring the holds all game, why start now?"

Seriously, some of the worst non-calls I've seen in a long time.

I mentioned the pulls on back of helmet and/or jersey and the club downs on his back a few days ago. NOt sure what the legal interpretation of the rules are for that. BUT, Ware was past his man or at least beside on numbers of occassions and then was pulled/clubbed down to his hands and knees.

A couple were almost certainly holding because the Jersery or helmet or shoulder pads were yanked forward . There was no blocking, it was pulling/holding.

Again, not sure if that is addressed in NFL rules though.

Good post and thanks for the work.

Of course the most blatant hold was the ankle tackle. Never seen anything not get called like that!

Ware was fuming!

How long you been watching this sport? Number one, the human element comes into play: hey, nobody's perfect. Number two, they KNOW they're missing calls, it's designed that way to make the game closer: they do it in the NBA all the time too. I hate it, but it's true. I will also say we got away with holds in that game too: I specifically remember three I held my breath on, including Romo's pass to Bryant on 3rd down.

It's theater boys, they want to suck you in and *** with your emotions and leave you psychologically wanting; no NEEDING more! And judging by your comments, it's working. Me? I'm 42 years old and have watched this sport for 34 years. Nothing really surprises me anymore. Disappointed and disgusted, but not surprised. Take it all with a grain of salt:I know I do! It's entertainment, no different than a movie or going to the beach. If you can't fully enjoy the sheer brutality, gracefulness and magic of the greatest sport on earth then I feels sorry for you. Going back and counting penalties is................

NP. Don't thank me though as it wasn't my work! :)

Everything can't be called, you're right about that, 100%. But at the same time, that's not the problem. The problem is, letting people play and getting away with a little (So you don't have a game of toss the yellow hanky) and then there is letting people get away with a lot, which is what this is.

I wondered this during the game as well ..

What the heck was Rex looking at?

vlcsnap-2011-09-28-18h26m27s211.png

I can just see a bunch of Commanders players on the sideline screaming, "BEHIND YOU! LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!" And Rex looking at them saying, "What!?!? What!?!?! I can't hea<BAM!!><fumble>"

#reality

Man this is horrible... How can they not see this?

God can somebody send this to the refs?

I looked at #1 on that list and don't think it's a hold.

How the play before that isn't on there is crazy.

The only reason I can see a hold not being called is because Hightower stepped up and gave help, basically covering up the fact that Ware was once again tackled.

He had the LT so out of position, there is absolutely no way that he could stop Ware without holding. LT even left his feet to drag Ware down.

Probably at the down markers, to see where the line of scrimmage was. That, or he's looking over his shoulder to see where the defenders are.

Reality, I would venture a guess he was looking over his shoulder at Spencer to see if he was bout to be caught.

Ware and Freeney are probably the most held players in NFL history.

It is inconceivable how many sacks Ware would get if the refs gave Ware the same protection they give other top pass rushers.

It'd be interesting if someone could compile the ratio of Ware's sacks to holds and compared him to the other top pass rushing OLB/DEs in the league.

I am so glad you posted this.
I observed the same exact thing and, while everyone was praising Spencer for the big play, I noticed that it was once again Ware who made all the difference... even while being blatantly held by 2 linemen.

Spencer- overrated.
Ware- an absolute monster

Spencer is kind of a funny player. According to the board in 2009 he was underrated, in 2010 he was a bum and was overrated and now in 2011 he is underrated gain.

I happen to agree with you that on the measure of CBZ evaluation, Spencer is overrated right now. I think he is a slightly above average SOLB for a 3-4 team but he is a definite step below the best in the league: Woodley and Clay Matthews.

Mr Ed and his crew are horrible.. I remember a couple of years ago when they made that bad call that cost San Diego a game against Denver... :bang2: Is there any worst crew in the league???
