He looks like he will be a lot more explosive.

He's walking with the "no namers" in the top pic! Who are those guys?

I think he is actually a bit heavier this year and will play somewhere in the 255-265 range.

I think the thing he likes best about the new scheme is his responsibilities in run defense and coverage have been markedly reduced freeing him to hunt QBs. Moreover, he gets to line up in the wide-9 slot in a 3-point stance which will further enhance his explosiveness as a pass rusher compared to rushing more from the 6 or 7 slot in the standing position.

This should help prolong Ware's career by letting him not have to go toe-to-toe with opposing OTs who outweigh him by 80 pounds snap after snap. He can now engage them with more speed and quickness and not worry as much about setting the edge in run defense.

I think he is gong to be a real handful this season and think the scheme change will benefit him more than anyone else. I'd add Rat to the list but I think he may be physically worn out.

I think 79 is Livings.

Ware will also be lining up so far off the OT that he will be playing half a man more times than not. This will be significant considering all the double even triple teams he has seen most of his career.

Seems like a great time for a switch for him. You can't count on a DE/OLB to drop into coverage forever. It's also one last rodeo for Ratliff, Spencer and Ware together.

Wade & Monte understand that, it was just Rob who felt like Ware should drop back into coverage every other play.

IIRC, Ware was in coverage only ~7% of the time last season.

I believe you are correct. He was rushing more than 90% of the time, I believe. Think it was a little lower in 2011 but he's never been in coverage all that much.

Even if it was that low the times he was in coverage was very puzzling.

Not really. Ideally you don't want the offense to know which OLB is going to be rushing. Kind of defeats the purpose of having 2 OLBs who can rush if you label one the "coverage" OLB and the other the "rush" OLB.

The Steelers mix it up better than anyone in the league based on how frequently their OLBs rush. I think both are around the 70% mark.

In those nickel situations he was dropping back there's no reason ware should've been in coverage.

None.

Ryan got too cute at times and I think the d suffered.

Dez and Ware are our two best players... I expect Ware to have around 12-15 sacks this year.
