• "Five weeks into the season and [Carolina defensive end] Julius Peppers doesn't have a sack yet? He's running into blockers, seeing double-teams even when they aren't out there. He's too good an athlete not to break loose, but it looks like he's getting frustrated, and his mechanics are breaking down. He's fighting too hard to get off blocks that aren't even there and making it harder than it has to be."

Can you believe this stat? Peppers is extremely talented and having trouble getting to the QB, therefore, I am extremely pleased with our rookie's production!

Thoughts?

after 5 games Ware has 3 sacks...that equates to about 10 for the year...I will gladly take that !!

You know, I think people are looking to much at his Sack numbers to dictate his contribution.

Yes it is nice he has 3 sacks in the last 3 games, but he also is playing the run a lot better, and has looked good in Coverage.

I also think you can say 2 other sacks where due to his pressure and pushed the QB towards another defender, and he is starting to get double teams.

He still has a ways to go, but he is definetly not hurting us, and actually making some impact.

That sack yesterday was very big IMO. Right after we scored his sack knocked them deep in our territory, and helped give us that great Field Position.

I love watching Ware on Defense. He's the player on focus on when the cowboys are on D. He causes alot of problems to the offense.

Ware's quality can be measured pretty well by watching what other teams are doing against him. He's seeing double teams, backs who chip him, and a variety of schemes designed to account for him.

When you are a rookie -- only 5 games in -- and teams are game planning around you -- then you have arrived.

Combined "big plays" (sacks and turnovers) so far this season by Julius Peppers, Ed Reed, Kevin Williams, Sean Taylor, Shawn Springs and LaVar Arrington: zero.

I think Ware showed something nice yesterday Bull Rushing a pretty good OT. Add that to his fast first step and we are seeing something starting I think.

Derinyar I think you are absolutely correct. That excellent quick first step will be Ware's biggest asset before all is said and done.

ware has been great and the best thign about him, is the difference between the lost man in the chargers game, the one who was contsantly making mistakes losing containment, to now a huge force, that teams are a little weary on running plays toward.

Ware is going to prove to be an absolute MONSTER for us. He's been matched up against some of the best LT's in the league to date and has more than held his own. Hell, the kid doesn't even really have a decent grasp on his new position yet. He's only going to get BETTER.

10 sacks by week 13 and DROY are not out of the question.

I slightly disagree. The hit Taylor put on Clayton inside the last two minutes was big - forced the 4th down and loss on downs.

That's a good call - doesn't show up on the stat sheet as a "big play" but that was huge. Statistics are great but there are a lot of aspects of football performance that you simply cannot measure with official NFL stats.

And if Roy had made that play against an opponent -- we'd still be talking about how huge it was. I hate Taylor but give him his due.

It was combined sacks and turnovers, which are commonly referred to as the "big plays" by defenders. I'm sure all of those guys have made what some people might call a big play, but none of them have a single sack, interception, forced fumble or fumble recovery. That was my point.

If not for an awful call, the hit on Crayton would have been a forced fumble.... and likely a TD going the other way.

I don't really see the connection between Peppers' disappointing year and Ware's production (which I'm very pleased with.)

When Adam speaks about stats you peeps need to listen.

I'm not disputing that Adam produces excellent statistics. But statistics are only meaningful when we understand them in context and recognize their limitations. Any statistician who tells you different is a fool (and you'd be hard pressed to find one who would tell you different).

There is a difference between statistical "fact" e.g., Taylor not producing any ints, forced fumbles, or sacks and what an impactful play really is. These stats certainly do represent big plays. But there are a number of other ways to make a big play -- breaking up a pass is one, pressuring a QB out of the pocket so he throws an int or is sacked by another player, making a tackle for a loss, a good open field tackle, etc. etc.
