Ware has a sack, a forced fumble, and 3 tackles for loss in the first half. What a waste of a draft pick.

If he does it against STL then there's an argument to be made. Ware is dominant when he wants to be and inconsistent as well.

I think both are going to be fantastic players. Merriman has the edge now since he really plays mostly the QB whereas Ware does a lot of re-routing of the receivers and coverage.

Where I like Ware is that he still has a better first step than Merriman, if every so slightly and has a longer reach (that's why he's able to force fumbles). Merriman's first step is only slightly behind Ware's, but is much stronger and uses his hands better.

Once Ware starts learning the game better, gets stronger with his upper body, and learns a couple of more moves he can be just as big of a factor as Merriman.

I actually kind of like Ware a bit more in this defensive scheme since he's far better in coverage than Merriman (he really struggles at that). But if the Chargers ever went to a 4-3, he probably wouldn't miss a beat and I don't think Ware is a 4-3 DE if the Cowboys ever go back to that.

i live in NC, have seen every Panther game, believe me that left tackle for Carolina gives up alot of sacks to speed rushers. most Panther fans say he sucks.

This is an important point. I haven't analyzed Merriman, but I've seen 3 of his sacks come as a result of SD blitzing Merriman and another LB side-by-side simultaneously. When the RB had to choose which to pick up on all 3 plays he picked up the other LB leaving Merriman a clean shot at the QB. I've never seen anyone release Ware on any down. To the contrary, he's constantly doubled and chipped on every play. Furthermore, the sacks Ware gets, he get on his own (no stunts, no double blitzes, no nothing). Once Ware stops thinking so much, and just starts playing football, his natural talents will be fully realized and this nonsense about who is the better player can finally be put to rest.

Nothing changes my mind. Ware has the ability to turn into a Pro Bowl caliber weakside pass rusher, like Derrick Thomas or Pat Swilling. I'm very happy with that. Its just that Merriman is a potential once in a lifetime player because at a natural 270 lbs with just ungodly explosion and strength. He's just a few lbs. smaller than Le'Roi Glover. He completely blows up 330 lbs. tackles. ESPN had a feature on him today and showed a play where he sniffed out a screen play, took on Chris Samuels and knocked him flat on his back like he was Darren Sproles. With that combination of speed, size and strength, he could line up anywhere on the field. I don't think the NFL has ever seen a player like that.

Props to Roshi for giving Merriman credit for what he has done this season. I'm as big a fan of Merriman as there is, since he played for Maryland, and I love the fact that he is having such an impact in his first season.

At the same time, I love what Ware has done, and has the potential to do, in this league. And while I wanted Merriman to be the pick for Dallas in the draft, I have no problem with Ware. He is going to be a beast. We are just seeing glimpses of his ability.

I find it ammusing that people refuse to give any player credit if he doesn't play for Dallas, and any one that does isn't a "true" Dallas fan. Get over yourselves.

The problem is when you start giving Merriman props at the expense of Ware, the natural reaction in defense of the other guy is to swing the other way, and diminish the accomplishments of the other player.

If that didn't happen, you wouldn't see it occur.

To say someone maybe a once in a lifetime player while the other one won't with one year under their belt is preposterous. Both have potential, probably the same amount, and no one knows what will happen in the future.

This is the logic that I follow. Both have positives and negatives, and we went with speed over strength. I'm really glad Ware had a break out game today, but I'm much more concerned with consistancy. One game doesn't make a player great. Ask Phillip Daniels. :bang2:
